G. Waldo Dunnington - 1927-01-20

Dear Miss Gauss:
        I thought you might like to have the following information, taken a family Bible record, now in the possession of Mrs. Willie Johns parish of Roanoke, Va.  She states that Col. John Johns lived at New Store, Buckingham County.  Edmund Winston Johns became a noted divine of his day.
        From another source it is learned that Col. John Johns and Elizabeth Winston were married in 1766; that he died about 1821 and she in 1784 or 1788.  Glover Johns, named below, married in 1803, Martha (born in Buckingham, 1780, died 1828) daughter of Joel Jones, and died in 1834 in Mississippi.  Glover and Martha Johns had John Jay Johns, born June 27, 1818 in Buckingham Co., Va.  married Jane Amanda Durfee, and died April 3, 1899 at St. Charles, Mo.  Glover and Martha Johns also had a daughter, Mary, who married William Cowan.
        It has been stated that Elizabeth, wife of John Johns, was a daughter of Judge Edmund Winston, but this is a mistake.  His daughter Elizabeth (1783-1856) married Dr. Bennett W. Moseley.

        You may already have most of these dates.  I happened to notice the article in my reading & thought you might be interested.
        Do you have a copy of the will of C.F. Gauss?  Or where can I get one?
