Office Boone Co. & J. C. R. R. Co.
Columbia Mo July 5th 1866

Mr. C. H. Gauss
I regret to inform you that I am compelled to reduce my Engineering force to one field party, which makes it necessary to discharge the one to which you are attached.
I lose your Services very unwillingly, and take this opportunity to State that in your position of Rodman on Location & Construction, you have exhibited talent & Skill werthy of a higher Station.

Respectfully Yours
G. C. Pratt, Engr.
