Dear Mother -

        Just a note to be mailed at Newport News, to tell you that I am well and enhoying myself.  We ran into cold weather during the night and I am reminded of Texas northers this morning.

        I have sent a journal of the voyage so far to Louise.  It is for general consumption and will tell you all my adventures.

        I just wanted to send you a note besides.  I hope you are not worrying about me, and that you are well.

(Started from Galveston, Texas, on slow steamer to take ocean voyage for his health.  Traveled through England and Scotland, visiting relations in Perthshire.  Died in St. Charles, Missouri, the following October.)
