"... Mr. Lamboll reported from the Committee to whom the Memorial of the Commissioners for founding, Erecting, Governing, Ordering and Visiting a School for the Use of the Inhabitants of the Province of South Carolina was referred, That the Committee had examined the Matter of the said Memorial and had directed him to report the same to the House, and he read the Report in his place, and afterward delivered it in at the Clerk's Table where the same was read and is as follows, Vizt. That for the Reasons set forth in the said Memorial It appears to your Committee necessary that a convenient piece of Ground should be purchased or procured as near as possible can be to the Centre of Charles Town and that a commodious Brick House of suitable Form and Dimensions should be constructed thereon, Containing Commodious Rooms as well for teaching the Scholars as for accomodating the Masters of the said School agreeable to the Intent and Meaning of the Original Free-School Act passed the 12th of December 1712, That for effecting and Compleating the same a Sum not exceeding . . . should be provided and applied as shall be hereafter appointed. Resolved that this House will on Thursday Morning next take the said Report into Consideration...."
