"... A Petition of John Elliott, Indian Trader, was presented to the house & read Setting forth as Viz. That Your Petitioner has Lived Some Years in the Cherokee Nation. That about May 1753 the Indians brought in Two French Prisoners whom they kept for one year when the Petitioner purchased their ransom, brought them to Town and delivered them to James Glen Esqr., then Governor of this Province, who Examined them before the Council and promised to repay the Petitioner the ransom Money &c. which was afterwards done. That the Petitioner in Consequence of the said Late Governors Orders Carried the said Prisoners to the House of Alexander McGregor to be Entertained with Meat, drink, washing & Lodging, who refused to take them without a Written Order on which the Petitioner became Security for payment of the Expences to be incurred in Consequence of the said verbal Order to Said McGregor. That the said McGregor's wife often attended Mr. Glen for Payment of the Account hereunto Annexed but could not Receive any Sattisfaction, whereupon your petitioner was arrested and as the Petitioner's intentions were for the public Good prays the House to take his Case into Consideration & make provission for the discharge of the said Account. Read also the Account of the Said Hannah McGregor amounting to £214:10. Order'd That the Said Petition & Account be referred to the Consideration of the Committee appointed to Audit the Accounts of the Public Creditors.
