Thursday the 26th Day of January 1758.

"...Mr. Pringle reported from the Committee appointed to audit the Accounts of
the Creditors of the Public, that the Committee had Examined several of the
Accounts which were referred to them; & had directed him to report the Same as
they appear'd to them to the House. And he read the Report in his Place &
afterwards delivered it in at the Clerk's Table. Where the same was read & is as
follows, Viz., Report No. 1 Containing from No. 1 to No. 100.

No. 1. On An Account of Sarah Nightingale Amounting [to] £103 for Entertaining
of Indians which your Committee Recommend to be provided for.

No. 2. An Account of Willm. Osborne, Constable, Amounting [to] £14 for Criminal
Slaves in which we find an overcharge in Mileage of £1:17:6, the Ballance being
£12:2:6 we Recommend to be allowed.

No. 3. A Second Account of Willm. Osborne, Constable, Amounting [to] £18:2:6 for
a Criminal Slave in which we find an Overcharge of £1:2:6 in Mileage, the
Ballance being £17 to be allowed.

No. 4. An Account of James Sawyers Amounting [to] £5:12:6 for Entertaining
Indians in which we find Overcharg'd £3:17:6, the Ballance being £1:15 we
recommend to be allowed.

No. 5. A Second Account of James Sawyers Amounting [to] £0:17:6 to be allowed.

No. 6. An Account of Downes & Nicholson Amounting [to] £26, for Flags for the
Forts which we Recommend to be allowed out of the Fortification fund.

No. 7. An Account of Joseph Palmer for Accadians £33 allowed.

No. 8. An Account of Lionel Chalmers for Indians £14:5 allowed.

No. 9. An Account of Tew & Roybold for Indians £99:10 allowed.

No. 10. An Account of Henry Gallman for Carriage of Goods to Fort Prince George
£432:18 Allowed.

No. 11. An Account of Margaret Boone £50:17:6, Part thereof for flags for the
Forts to be paid out of the Fortification Fund £30 for the Lookouts & £20 for
the Indians We recommend to be allowed.

No. 12. An Account of James Roberts, Coroner for Berkly & Craven County,
Amounting [to] £80, £60 allowed.

No. 13. An Account of Benja. Stead Amounting [to] £6931:4:4, £6:2:6 for
Fortifications to be provided out of the Fortification Fund, for Indians £67:10
& for Fort Loudoun £114:6:1. For the Forces £6643:5:9 to be allowed.

No. 14. An Account of Stephen Crell for Acadians £143 allowed.

No. 15. An Account of Sarah Nightingale for Damages Sustained by the Encampment
of the Royal Americans £150, Not allowed.

No. 16. An Account of Judith Postell Amounting [to] £707:10, In which there is
of £12:5 for Acadians & for Entertaining French Prisoners of war £695:5:0.
Overcharged in Sundry Articles £26:12:6, the Ballance Being £680:17:6 we
Recommend to be allowed.

No. 17. An Account of Patrick Troy, Fort Loudoun, £76:10 allowed.

No. 18. An Account of John Chevillette Amounting [to] £6237:13:6, the Ballance
£575:13:6 to be allowed in which however there are many Extraordinary Charges,
for which the Committee refers to the Account deliv'd.

No. 19. An Account of Thomas Gordon £286:10:7 1/2 , £3:5:7 1/2 for repairing the
watch House & the Remainder for maintenance of French Prisoners, in which there
is an Overcharge of £62:10, to be allowed £224:00:7 1/2.

No. 20. Four Certificates of Cornelius Doharty for fort Loudoun £693:17:6
indorsed to Benjamin Stead, Allowed.

No. 21. Four Certificates of Henry Gallman Amounting [to] £2190:3:6 for Supplies
to Fort Loudoun & Fort Prince George, Certified by John Chevillette, to be
allowed. Which your Committee Can't help Observing is a vast Sum for flour &
Bacon.

No. 22. An Account of Henry Gallman for Indians Expences amounting [to] £5:8:9,
allow £2:3:9.

No. 23. Two Certificates from John Chevillette to Thomas Keiler for Fort Loudoun
Amounting [to] £81 allowed.

No. 24. An Account of Joshua Grimball Amounting [to] £161 part whereof £48:10
for Acadians, the Remainder for Edisto lookout, allowed.

No. 25. An Account of Samuel Fry, Constable, Amounting [to] £57 in which are
over Charges for Horse hire £14, & a Short Charge for Maintainance of Prisoners
70/, of the ballance £46:10 allowed.

No. 26. An Account of Ancrum, Lance & Loocock Amounting [to] £162:2:6 Part
£127:12:6 for Indians, the Remainder for Fort Loudoun & Keowee allow'd.

No. 27. An Account of James Akin for french Prisoners, Ballance £16:12:6,
allow'd.

No. 28. A Certificate to George June for Accadians Assign'd to Elias Ball
Amounting [to] £63, Allowed.

No. 29. A Second Certificate to George June for Accadians Assignd to Elias Ball
Amounting [to] £108, allowed.

No. 30. An Account of Ulrick Backman for Carriage of Goods to Keowee Certified
by James Glen Esqr., Late Governor, £48 allowed.

No. 31. An Account of the Estate of William Backshell Amounting [to] £339:14,
which Account was deliv'd to the Public in 1755 & then in part provided for &
the Remainder rejected, which the Committee are of Opinion Should be rejected.

No. 32. An Account of the Estate of Anthony Bonneau for French Prisoners
Amounting [to] £62:5, allowed.

No. 33. An Account of Daniel Burnett for Indians £26:5 allowed.

No. 34. An Account of Daniel Burnett for Pasturage of Indian horses, Disallowd.

No. 35. An Account of George Bland for taking up Criminals £4:10, Overcharge
£1:17:6, Ballance £2:12:6 Allowed.

No. 36. An Account of Peter Butler for French Prisoners £32:16 allow'd.

No. 37. A Certificate of Daniel Pepper in Favour of John Boyle whom he Employed
as a Guard Amounting [to] £30. As the Law allows the Agent very handsomely for
himself & two Servants, we think it Shou'd not be allowed.

No. 38. Do. in favor of Patrick Butler £30 for the like Service, Disallowed.

No. 39. An Account of David Brown for two Flag Staffs & putting them up
Amounting [to] £86, Overcharged £14, Ballance £72 allowed.

No. 40. An Account of Willm. Banbury £246:2:4 Bread & flour delivered in the
Year 1756 by Order of Jas. Glen Esqr., allowed.

No. 41. A Second Account of William Banbury £287:19:5 for Board for Highland
Soldiers at Mr. Maynes Wharff to be allowed.

No. 42. An Account of Daniel Bourgett for House Rent, being for Lodging and
Baggage for the Highland Soldiers Amounting [to] £48 allowed.

No. 43. An Account of Jonathan Badger for the use of the Assembly Room Amounting
[to] £61:3:9 allowed.

No. 44. An Account of Charles Bedingfield, Constable, Amounting [to] £52:15, of
which £20:7:6 was paid by the Treasurer, Overcharg'd, £20:12:6, Ballance £5:15
allowed.

No. 45. An Account of Barnard Beekman Amounting [to] £97:1:3, £22 for Look outs
allowed, £75:1:3 to be paid out of the Fortification Fund.

No. 46. A Second Account of Barnd. Beekman Amounting [to] £445, to be paid out
of the Fortification Fund.

No. 47. A third Account of Barn'd Beekman for Lodging of Officers amounting [to]
£22:10, which as it is an Unusual Account & which your Committee doubt if tis
warranted in the former House of Assembly, therefore beg Leave to Submit it to
the Consideration of the House.

No. 48. An Account of Henry Bedon for Lodging an Officer Amounting [to] £31:8:6,
being for the Like Service we Likewise Submitt &ca.

No. 49. An Account of John Raven Bedon for Lodging an Officer named Captn.
McDonald, Amounting [to] £63:11:8, who had two Rooms for himself which we also
Submitt, &ca.

No. 50. An Account of Sarah Baker for Lodging an Officer Amounting to £21:15:8
which we also Submitt &c.

No. 51. Eight Certificates for the use of Fort Prince George & Fort Loudoun
indorsed to Peter Benoist, Amounting [to] £692:6 of which £25 is for Wages to a
Clerk of the Stores, an Officer unknown to the Committee, Ballance £667:6
allowed.

No. 52. An Account of William Bonneau, Constable, for Criminal Slaves, Amounting
[to] £10:6, Overcharg'd in Mileage, £3:6:3 Ballance £6:19:9 allowed.

No. 53. An Account of Jane Boone for Lodging Officers Amounting [to] £56, which
we also Submitt &c.

No. 54. An Account of Rebecca Bennett for the Like Service Amounting [to] £31:8
which we also Submitt &c.

No. 55. An Account of William Brandford Amounting [to] £119 being for Straw for
the Soldiers per agreement with the Commissary to be allowed.

No. 56. An Account of Wm. Bissett for Lodging an Officer Amounting [to] £27:2:6
which we also Submitt &ca.

No. 57. An Account of William Bampfeild for House rent for Soldiers amounting
[to] £450, allowed.

No. 58. An Account of Mark Antho. Bessellen for French Prisoners Amounting [to]
£13:17:6, allowed.

No. 59. An Account of William Bird for Maintenance of four Acadians Amounting
[to] £16, allowed.

No. 60. An Account of Robert Collins Amounting [to] £40:2:6, In which we find
Under Cast £3:15, Makes £43:17:6 to be allowed.

No. 61. An Account of Isham Clayton Amounting [to] £193:10, Being for Wages for
driving Cattell to the Cherokees for fort Loudoun by Order of the late Governor
in the Year 1756, which Your Committee are of Opinion ought to be paid out of
the Money already Granted for Fort Loudoun.

No. 62. An Account of Jerome Courtonne Amounting [to] £1350 for Carriage of
Goods to the Indians which not being attested & properly Vouch'd we think ought
not to be allowed.

No. 63. A Certificate of James Welch Amounting [to] £93:10 indorsed to Daniel
Cannon for Carriage of Goods to Fort Loudoun, to be allowed.

No. 64. An Account of James Carney, Constable, Amounting [to] £7 for Inquests,
to be allowed.

No. 65. An Account of the Church Wardens of the Parish of St. Helena amounting
[to] £179:10, In which we find Undercast £5 (being for Maintainance of
Accadians) which being Added makes £184:10, to be allowed.

No. 66. An Account of Hugh Anderson Amounting [to] £72 for Bed Steads & Tables
for the Highland Officers, to be allowed.

No. 67. An Account of William Carwithen £41:1:5 for Lodging an Officer of the
Highland Regiment which we Submitt to the Consideration of the House.

No. 68. An Account of the Church Wardens of Charles Town Amounting [to]
£142:14:3 for Money paid to sundry Poor, some of which are Soldiers Wives now at
Fort Loudoun, which the Committee are of Opinion the Commissary ought to pay out
of their additional pay of 2d per Day, The Remainder to be allowed.

No. 69. A Second Account of the Church Wardens of Charles Town Amounting [to]
£420:2:5, allowed.

No. 70. A third Account of the Church Wardens of Charles Town Amounting [to]
£167:4:6, allowed.

No. 71. A fourth Account of the Church Wardens of Charles Town Amounting [to]
£514:19:1, Charges for Acadians, to be allowed.

No. 72. A fifth Account of the Church Wardens of Charles Town Amounting [to]
£26:18:7, Likewise for Accadians to be allowed.

No. 73. An Account of Paul Combé for Entertaining of French Prisoners of Warr
£34:17:6, we Recommend to be allowed.

No. 74. An Account of Isabella Robinson for Lodging of Highland Soldiers £33:3:8
to be allowed.

No. 75. An Account of John Coon for Inquests £30, upon Examination Your
Committee find that the said Account was delivered in Last year Amounting [to]
£14:2:6 only, for the same Articles, & Rejected for not being properly Certified
& which we Likewise are of Opinion that it ought to be rejected as we take it to
be an Imposition on the public.

No. 76. An Account of Elizth. Jones for Beds, Bolsters &ca. for the Soldiers,
amounting [to] £30:18:10, which we Recommend to be allowed.

No. 77. An Account of Moses Mitchell for Lodging Capt. Gordon, Two Rooms,
Amounting [to] £79:13, which we beg Leave to Submitt.

No. 78. An Account of Mary Cranmer for Lodging 2 Officers with two Rooms Each,
Amounting [to] £80:10, which we Submitt to the House.

No. 79. An Account of Magdelen Prioleau for Lodging Officers Amounting [to]
£98:15 which we beg Leave to Submitt, &c.

No. 80. An Account of George Jackson for Indian Provisions amounting to £8, we
recommend may be allowed.

No. 81. An Account of Josp. Norman for Maintainance of Acadians Amounting [to]
£91:12:9, to be allowed.

No. 82. An Account of Thomas Harrison for Cash paid different Persons for
tak[ing] Care of Cattle drove to Fort Loudoun for provisions for the Garrison by
Collo. Minnick amounting to £15. Your Committee take Leave to Observe that they
look on the Said and many Such Charges a great Imposition on the Public and
ought by all means to be discouraged as they Apprehend the many Persons then at
the fort might very Easely have seen to that Service without putting the Country
to any Extraordinary Expence about it, and therefore that it may be disallowed.

No. 83. A Second Account of the said Thomas Harrison for Oznabrigs for Bags
amounting to £48:16 ought to be allowed. Your Committee observe The Person
Entitled to this allowance is Serjeant of the Company who they Conceive an
Improper person to be Employed in Such Trade and Buisseness as the least bad
Consequence attending it must unavoidably be a Neglect of his Duty.

No. 84. Capt. Pepper's Muster Roll amounting to £225 for Six men Employed as
Guard to him on his Agency to the Creek Nation. Your Committee observe that the
Law Authorising the Apointment of Agents for Such Services appoints a Certain
Sum per Dium for himself and a Certain Number of Attendance and therefore Your
Committee does not think themselves at Liberty to allow him any further
provision.

No. 85. An Account of Elizth. Richardson for Lodging of Officers amounting [to]
£216:5, In which there is a Charge of £42:10 for a Dining room which we think
Unreasonable, The Ballance £173:15 refer to the Consideration of the House.

No. 86. A Certificate from Captn. Paul Demeré in favour of Barnaby McMollen
indorsed to Glen & Cooper Amounting [to] £49 for Carriage of Salt to Fort
Loudoun, Allowed.

No. 87. A Certificate from Captn. Raymond Demerré in favour of John Chevillette
Amounting [to] £200 for Rum Delivered at Fort Loudoun indorsed to Glen & Cooper;
as the Committee knows of no use the Public has for [Rum] at Fort Loudoun and
the Certificate not Expressing for what use it is Your Committee think it ought
not to be allowed.

No. 88. An Account of Samuel Ben indorsed to Glen, Cooper & Co. for Bulletts,
Hatchets & Powder delivered at Fort Loudoun Amounting [to] £65:2:6 Which we
think ought not to be provided for because, We know of no Authority that Capt.
Demerré had for purchasing those Things in the Indian Country.

No. 89. A Certificate of John Chevillette in favor of Richd. Smith for the use
of Fort Loudoun, indorsed to Glen & Cooper, Amounting [to] £105 allow'd.

No. 90. A Certificate of Joseph Lloyd in Favor of John Gallman for two days
Maintainance of Indians £52:10 allowed.

No. 91. A Certificate in Favor of John Giessendanner for a Slave Executed,
Amounting [to] £200, allowed.

No. 92. An Account of Gordon & Elliott for Scout Boats & look outs to the
Southward Amounting [to] £77:6:10, allowed.

No. 93. An Account of John Gibbes, son of William Gibbes, Constable, for
Criminal Slaves £23:15, In which we find an Overcharge of £8 for Attendance, The
Ballance £15:15 to be allowed.

No. 94. An Account of John Glover for Maintenance of Acadians amounting [to]
£180, allowed.

No. 95. A Certificate of John Chevillette in favour of Walter Bateman for fort
Loudoun Amounting [to] £100, indorsed to Collo. Howarth, allowed.

No. 96. A Certificate of Paul Demeré in favor of Margaret Gloster for 200
Bushels of Indian Corn deliv'd at Fort Loudoun, indorsed to Messrs. Smith &
Brewton, £200, allowed.

No. 97. An Account of Frederick Holzendorff for Prisoners amounting [to] £60:15,
allowed.

No. 98. A Certificate of Paul Demeré in favor of Wm. Shorey, indorsed to Thomas
& William Ellis & Company, £75 for th[re]e Month's Service as Linguister at Fort
Loudoun, the Committee think £45 to be allowed, which is at the Rate of £15 per
Month.

No. 99. An Account of John Hayes for Acadians £14:10, allow'd.

No. 100. An Order in favour of William Dalton for two Slaves Executed £400,
allowed when it Shall Appear the Slaves were Executed.

Resolv'd That the said report be considered to morrow morning...."
