I started out about 5 years ago with FTM 2.0 (the original DOS program!!) -
I'm now using 5.0b and I've never had any trouble with my own files or
gedcoms??

There are a lot of features about FTM I really like (book maker for one) -
but I do disagree with collecting family genealogies and information (years
of hard work for most people) and making a huge profit off of them. I
understand there is a cost involved in bringing all that information together
and making it convieniently available to people world wide - but the cost is
still highly inflated. Anyway, what do you do when you've got a thousand
hours put into a the program you are using - ditch it and spend another
thousand hours re-entering into another program that may also have it's
faults/bugs? Alas - it's not a perfect world.
