Familytreemaker did not do that though. I had upgrades
version 4.0 to version 5.0 and could not read files from earlier
versions. I believe it was 6.0 when they started leting you save your
files in eailer versions. I had version 5.0 and wanted to read a family
file and a gedcom someone sent me but the eailer versions would not let
me read them. I had to upgrade to use 6.0 files. Even when they saved
it in my version 5.0 my 5.0 would not read the file or the gedcom. I
called familytreemaker abt the problem and they told me I needed to
upgrade because I only bought the upgrades and never bought the whole
5.0 program. The new 6.0 upgrade changed all that.
