Sandra and SC Roots List Members,
I, too, am interested in this information. Is there a web site of SC
orphanages?
I have always heard that I have connections to Marion. But I do not know
how. I do know that my gg-Aunt Nelie, Cornelia Lefforts Sherwood (1868 -
1939) lived in Marion for awhile. I got this information from return
addresses on old letters.
When Aunt Nelie died, she requested that $25.00 of her estate be given
to an orphanage in York, SC. Since she never married and had no children, I
tend to wonder if she had been in that orphanage as a child. In her later
years, she lived with my grandparents in Ridgeland, Jasper County, where she
is buried.
I am researching DAVIS HEAPE ULMER YOUMANS ZAHLER & PEEPLES (Colleton,
Hampton, Beaufort, & Jasper Counties of SC) and SHERWOOD & BOYD.
If any of the above sounds familiar, please contact:
