Can someone tell me what it might mean when someone stated this in a
land transfer?

".......it being a part of one hundred acres granted to Thomas Stribling by
Joseph
Red,........"

does that mean that Thomas Stribling bought the land from Joseph Red,
or that Joseph Red gave Thomas the land, or what? Date is 1837.

Thanks for your help,
Lisa
