Henry Hampton SHUMAN, son of Jehu SHUMAN and Mary Emeline SAMUELS, was born 8 Jun 1851 in Pendleton, IN. He was baptized in the Beech Grove Congregation, Pendleton, IN. He first married Melissa Jane SUFFIELD, 17 Feb 1873. She died 19 Nov 1874.

He second married Armanda Melinda JACKSON, daughter of William Andrew JACKSON and Suzanna SHORE, 19 Jun 1877 in Hancock Co., IN. She was born 18 Mar 1861 in Hancock Co., IN. and baptized in the Beech Grove Congregation, Pendleton, IN. She died 30 Apr 1934 in Pendleton, Madison Co., IN. and is buried in Grove Lawn Cemetery, Pendleton, Madison Co., IN. Her occupationm was Homemaker. Her religion was Old German Baptist Brethren.

Buried in Grove Lawn Cemetery, Pendleton, Madison Co., IN. Occupation Farmer, Minister. Education HS Diploma. Religion Old German Baptist Brethren.

Although he was a country boy, Luther graduated from high school with an almost perfect four-year report card, both highly unusual for the year 1900.

At their marriage, Luther and his wife had a new house built at the road on his father's property. They lived in this house until their son Herman was married, when they built a new house on the original Shuman homesite.

Luther purchased all of the original Shuman farm and much of that which had been his father's, and continued purchasing to the south, bringing the total to approximately 365 acres.

Luther spent the last 14 years of his life blind, a victim of glaucoma. He also slowly lost his memory.

He married Florence Edna MILLER, daughter of Josiah Martin MILLER and Sarah Ann WEYBRIGHT, 31 Oct 1905 in Anderson, IN. Born 21 Sep 1881 in Englewood, OH. Baptism in Beech Grove Congregation, Pendleton, IN. Died Oct 7 1967 in Anderson, IN. Buried in Grove Lawn Cemetery, Pendleton, Madison Co., IN. Occupation Homemaker. Education HS Diploma. Religion Old German Baptist Brethren.

Florence had diabetes since her early 60s. She contracted cataracts, and had surgery to restore her vision.

They had the following children:

He married Aletha Myrl SISSON, daughter of William SISSON and Electra GRAHAM, 24 Dec 1904. Born 26 Dec 1885 in Madison Co IN. Died 2 Aug 1961 in Madison Co IN. They had the following children:

He married Opal O'BRIEN, 1 Jun 1912. Buried in Grove Lawn Cemetery, Pendleton, Madison Co. IN.

3.4.3.6 Seth L. SHUMAN. Born 28 Jun 1888. Died 9 Apr 1889. Buried in Grove Lawn Cemetery, Pendleton, Madison Co. IN.

3.4.3.7 Mary S. SHUMAN. Born 1 Jan 1891. Died 1955. She married Luther DAY, 16 Feb 1909. They had the following children:
