STERLING - Bill G. Greene, 76, of Kauffman Avenue, died Sunday, Nov. 26, 2006, in Charlotte, N.C.
Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Murray Funeral Home in Creston, with his nephew, the Rev. Rex Trogdon, officiating. Burial will be at Sterling Crown Hill Cemetery, where military rites will be conducted.
Friends may call Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Sterling Fire Department, P.O. Box 35, Sterling; or Sterling United Methodist Church, 13584 Kauffman Ave., Sterling 44276.
Bill was born March 18, 1930, in New Pittsburg, to Clifford James and Anna Elizabeth (Zimmerman) Greene and married Jo Ann McComas on Jan. 9, 1971. She survives.
He was a 1950 graduate of Sterling High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War in Germany, with the 520th Engineer Co.
In 1991, he retired from CSX Railroad, which was formerly the B&O after 43 years of service. He completed 32 years in fire and rescue service, serving first in Creston and then in Sterling, where he had been fire chief for 12 years.
He was a member of Sterling United Methodist Church, where he was president of the Sunday school class, was a life member of Seville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post, Creston American Legion Post 497, AMVETS, Railroad Retirees and Sterling K of P Lodge 173. He was a 50-year member of Creston Moose Lodge 1224.
Surviving in addition to his wife, are daughters, Linda Lewis of Cleveland, Lisa Hall of Sterling and Laura Seeger of Columbus; three grandsons; a sister, Eleanor Seegers of Charlotte, N.C.; and nieces and nephews.
A brother, Clifford Greene and infant brother, Richard, died previously.
