Charles was born Aug. 27, 1929, in Pontiac, Mich., the son of Charles and Thelma (Robichaud) Matson, and lived a full and adventurous life, accented with mischief. He was utterly devoted to his wife and family.
His accomplishments and exploits began early: Eagle Scout, veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Korean War, California Conservation Corps fire tower lookout and wilderness fishing guide in northern Wisconsin.
He was a 1952 graduate of Michigan State University (by the skin of his teeth, he would say: and a final Go Spartans! to all his OSU fan friends) and became a sales executive at General Motors Truck and Coach, Pontiac, Mich.
He moved to Orrville in 1968, joining Crown Steel and culminating his career as an independent businessman.
He was a member of Wooster Elks Lodge and Cedar Masonic Lodge 430 in Orrville.
He was an avid golfer, wonderful husband and father. He will be remembered for his quick wit, sharp intelligence, loyalty, integrity, generous love and a mean game of gin.
Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Isobel Matson; children, Sheila (Tom) Braciak and John (Heather) Matson; grandchildren, Scott VanZile, Jack and Michael Matson; and a sister, Janet (French) Eason.
