ORRVILLE -- Donald A. Markley, 85, of Orrville, died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2008, at Dunlap Memorial Hospital.

Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Roberts Funeral Home, Sherwood Chapel, Wooster, with the Rev. David Kowaleski officiating. Burial will be at Sherwood Memorial Gardens, Wooster, where military rites will be held.

Friends may call Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Donald was born Feb. 17, 1922, in Layland, to Adam and Annie (Galley) Markley.

He graduated from Holmesville High School in 1941, and served in the U.S. Coast Guard in the South Pacific during World War II.

He married Virginia Cunningham on Sept. 1, 1946.

Donald worked for J.M. Smucker Company for 34 years, retiring in 1987 as fleet supervisor.

He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and American Legion Post 282, both of Orrville. He enjoyed traveling, most recently to Alaska and Hawaii, working outdoors, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Donald will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 61 years, Virginia; children, Cheryl (Roger) McCumbers of Wooster, Carol Jean (Galen) Woodruff of Apple Creek, and James (Caroline) Markley of Orrville; grandchildren, Drew Wile, Bradley (Vanessa Sanders) Wile, Jason (Trista) Woodruff, Jeremy (Leslie) Woodruff, serving in Afghanistan, Steve (Aliza) Gill; great-grandchildren, Taylor, Tara, and Noah Wile; numerous nieces and nephews, and his special poodle, Penny.

His brothers, Adam, Melvin, Harold, sister, Mary Jane, and four infant siblings, preceded Donald in death.
