ORRVILLE - Darrell D. “Chub” Lax, 81, of Orrville, died Monday, June 30, 2003, at his home after an extended illness.

Memorial services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at West Lebanon United Methodist Church, with Pastor John Lawrence officiating. Burial will be at Union Cemetery in West Lebanon.

There will be no calling hours. Spidell Funeral Home in Mount Eaton, is handling arrangements. Online guest registration and condolences may be sent to www.spidellfuneralhome.com.

He was born Feb. 20, 1922, in West Lebanon to William and Mary (Margan) Lax and married Janet Torgler on March 22, 1942. She survives.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and had made his home in West Lebanon, moving to Orrville in 1981. In 1973, he retired from the former Union Drawn Division of Republic Steel in Massillon and was a former clerk of the Paint Township Trustees.

He was a member of West Lebanon United Methodist Church and the Massillon Chapter of Disabled American Veterans.

Surviving in addition to his wife, are children, Patricia Metcalf of Toledo and Jay (Bobbi Jo) Lax of Orrville; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A daughter, Pamela Lax, an infant son, Dennis Lax and a brother, Richard Lax, died previously.
