WOOSTER -- Fred R. Marti, 86, of Wooster, died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2006, at Smithville-Western Care Center.
Memorial services will be Sunday at 4 p.m. at Shreve United Methodist Church, with the Rev. William Lawson officiating. Private interment will be at Wooster Cemetery.
Friends will be received Friday from 6-9 p.m. at McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Shreve United Methodist Church, Brick Committee, 430 N. Main St., Shreve 44676; or Gideon Memorial Bible, in care of J. David Warrick, 1126 Summerset Drive, Wooster 44691.
Fred was born Dec. 13, 1920, in Yuma County, Colo., to Carl E. and Augusta F. (Matty) Marti and married Ruth M. Bowen on Feb. 8, 1947. She died Oct. 12, 1994.
He received his bachelor of science and master of science degrees from Ohio State University and his doctorate in agricultural economics from the University of Florida in 1954.
He had served in the military service in the Southwest Pacific during World War II, and was an agricultural extension agent in Holmes County, an analyst for the Central Intelligence Agency and U.S. Foreign Service. He also headed up market development work around the world for the soybean industry.
He was a life member of American Legion and Scottish Rite (Masonic order).
Surviving are children, Richard Marti of Huntington, W.Va., David Marti of East Hampton, Mass., and Brenda (Paul) McMillen of Lakeville; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Doris Bill of Mount Vernon and Carol Stewart of Denver, Colo.; and a brother, Stanley Marti of West Salem.
In addition to his wife, his parents died previously.
