WOOSTER - George M. Newman, 83, of Wooster, died Monday, Dec. 1, 2003, at his home.

Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home in Wooster, with the Rev. Glenn Royer officiating. Interment will be at Apple Creek Cemetery.

Friends will be received Friday from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home, where Masonic services will be held at 6:45 p.m.

He was born May 22, 1920, in Hartford to Clyde A. and D. Blanche (Pope) Newman and married Norma Graber in 1946. She survives.

He was a graduate of New Concord High School and the Cleveland College of Embalming. From 1947-76, he was a funeral director at the former McConnell Funeral Home and McIntire Funeral Home Inc. He was owner/operator of the Fisher Monument Co. from 1976-90.

He had served his country with the U.S. Army during World War II and was a 12-gallon blood donor for the American Red Cross.

He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Ebenezer Lodge 33 F&AM and Wooster Elks. He was a former member of Ohio Funeral Directors Association, National Funeral Directors Association, Tri-County Funeral Directors Association and Wooster Jaycees.

Surviving in addition to his wife, are sons, James Newman of Wooster and Jon (Sharon) Newman of Rockville, Md.; grandchildren, Suzanne, Jessica, Samuel, Matthew and Samantha; and a sister, Dora Longway of Schenectady, N.Y.
