ORRVILLE -- H.D. Nelson, 79, of Orrville, passed away Sunday morning, April 20, 2008, after a period of declining health.

Services will be Wednesday, April 23, at 11 a.m. at Auble Funeral Home, 512 E. Oak St., Orrville, with Pastor David J. Kowaleski officiating. Burial will be at Crown Hill Cemetery, Orrville, where military rites will be observed.

Friends may call this evening, April 22, from 6-8 at the funeral home, where Masonic rites will be held at 8 p.m. Online registry and expressions of condolence may be left at www.aublefuneralhome.com.

Memorial contributions may be made to Shriner's Hospitals for Children, in care of 744 Lehman St., Orrville 44667.

H.D. was born Sept. 25, 1928, in Frostburg, Md., the son of the late Herbert and Wallace L. (Twigg) Nelson. When he was a child his family moved to Barberton, and H.D. graduated from Barberton High School in June of 1946, and later attended Mount Union College in Alliance for two years.

From 1950-52, he served his country in the U.S. Army Signal Corps. He was united in marriage to Georganne M. Myers on Dec. 19, 1951, in Barberton. She died Feb. 23, 1999.

He had been employed at CNC Metals of Wooster, in sales and engineering, last working in the early 1990s. He previously had worked at the Will-Burt Company and Crown Steel, both of Orrville.

His memberships and activities included Cedar Lodge 430 of Orrville, he was a 32nd Degree Mason, Knight Templar, Al Koran Shrine, a past president of Wooster Shrine Club, Ambassador Emeritus, American Legion Post 282 of Orrville, a past Commander of Orrville Veteran's of Foreign Wars Post 3446, Wayne County Veteran's Commission, a Kentucky Colonel and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Orrville, where he had served on the Board of Missions.

As a youth he was a Boy Scout, and attained the rank of an Eagle Scout. His hobbies included woodworking, metal work, electronics and traveling.

Surviving are a son, Don (Dolores "Dee") Nelson of Orrville; a sister, Donna (William) Coler of Wadsworth; and a friend, Debbie Robb of Wooster.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents.
