Herbert E. Matty, 82, 23 E. Church St., died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2001, at Smithville-Western Care Center, Wooster.

Private family services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Gresser Funeral Home in Orrville, with the Rev. Joe Routh officiating. Burial will be at St. Michael's Cemetery, Marshallville.

There will be no calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael's United Church of Christ Memorial Fund, 22 E. Euclid St., Marshallville; or to Marshallville Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 261, Marshallville 44645.

He was born Sept. 22, 1919, in Chester Township, to Edward and Clara (Hartman) Matty and married Bernadine B. Crites on Aug. 6, 1941. She died Feb. 2, 2000.

Surviving are daughters, Joyce Ann (Gary) Studer of Smithville and Joanna (John) Stevic of Marshallville; grandchildren, Le Anne (Studer) Buchholz, Brian Studer, Erin Stevic and Celinda Stevic; four great-grandchildren; and a brother, Raymond Matty of Marshallville.
