John H. Leighty, 74, 8081 Blachleyville Road, died Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002, at his residence.
Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Schlabach Funeral Home in Shreve with the Rev. Kris Westbeld officiating. Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery, Shreve.
Friends may call Monday from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Family suggests memorial contributions be made to Big Prairie Community Bible Church, Box 112, Big Prairie 44611.
He was born Jan. 7, 1928, in Wooster to George and Ruth (Bahl) Leighty. He married Judy Kathleen Lee on Nov. 16, 1953 and they had just celebrated their 49th anniversary.
He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in the U.S. Army.
He retired from Walter Jones Construction Co. after 28 years of services.
He attended Big Prairie Community Bible Church.
Surviving in addition to his wife are five children, David (Sandy) Leighty, Kathy Blevens, Sherry (Dan) Peters, Rod (Julie) Leighty and Connie McDaniel, all of Wooster; 17 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Wilfred "Joe" and Ruth Leighty of Cape Coral, Fla., Gerald "Nupp" and Corrine Leighty of Apple Creek, Tom and Mary Lou Leighty and Cliff and Virginia Leighty, all of Wooster and two sisters and a brother-in-law, Miriam Terman and Eunie and Gerald Yates, all of Wooster.
Three brothers, Richard, Robert and Daniel and two infant sisters, Evelyn and Doris, died previously.
