ORRVILLE - Melvin E. Markley, 67, of Orrville, died Thursday, May 6, 2004, at Twin County Regional Hospital in Galax, Va., following a sudden illness while traveling.

Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Auble Funeral Home in Orrville, with the Rev. David Kowaleski officiating. Burial will be at Crown Hill Cemetery in Orrville, where military rites will be held.

Melvin was born Nov. 8, 1936, in Moreland to Frank Melvin and Mildred “Lucille” (Cunningham) Markley and married Jelyane Messenger on Sept. 16, 1961. She survives.

He was a 1955 graduate of Orrville High School and served in the U.S. Army National Guard during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

He was a dairy farmer all his adult life and also worked as a heavy equipment operator for C.A. King Construction and Ben D. Imhoff Construction. He retired in July of 2003.

Melvin was a member of Orrville Moose Lodge and enjoyed older model cars, spending time with his children and grandchildren and traveling with his wife.

Surviving in addition to his wife, are children, Sue (Tim) Weber, Walt (Debi) Markley and Mike Markley, all of Orrville; grandchildren, Jack, Andy and Kevin Weber, Allyson Davisson, Jacob and Jon Markley, all of Orrville; his mother of Orrville; brothers, Donny (Mary) Markley of Akron, Bob (Karen) Markley of Orrville, Roger (Barb) Markley of Denver, Colo., and Larry (Sally) Markley of Orrville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
