CRESTON - Phillip K. Matteson, 75, of Creston, died Tuesday, June 8, 2004, at the Regency Park Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Orrville, after a long illness.
Private family graveside services will be Friday, June 11 at 11 a.m. at Maple Mound Cemetery in Creston with Pastor Robert Holmes officiating.
Friends may call Thursday from 5-9 p.m. at the Matteson Funeral Home in West Salem.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Greater Wayne County, 2525 Back Orrville Road, Wooster 44691.
He was born February 9, 1929, in Wadsworth to Paul and Leafie (Keeney) Matteson.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He was owner/operator of the Matteson Drug Store in Creston for 32 years and also worked for Ritzman Drug Store in Seville for five years.
He was a life member of the American Legion Post 497 in Creston, Seville Veterans of Foreign Wars, life member of the National Rifle Association, 40&8, Seville Blue Lodge, Valley of Canton, Wooster Shrine Club, Cleveland Shrine Club and Creston Moose Lodge. He was also a member of the Methodist Church in Creston and the Ohio State Pharmaceutical Association.
Surviving are his wife, Sally (Weaver) Matteson, whom he married April 13, 1957; a daughter, Chris Taray and a granddaughter, Tianna of the home; a niece, Michele Matteson; four nephews, Ray, Bruce, and Andrew Fiscus and Mark Matteson; two sisters-in-law, Joan Fiscus and Lois Matteson and a special friend, Joyce Forrer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Allison and a brother, David E. Matteson.
