ORRVILLE -- Ray A. Martin, 87, 11641 Fox Lake Road, died Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2002, at Regency Park Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Orrville.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at East Chippewa Church of the Brethren, Orrville, with the Rev. Delbert Kettering officiating. Burial will be at Mount Zion Cemetery, Sterling.
Friends may call tonight (Thursday) from 6-9 at Gresser Funeral Home in Orrville, or one hour prior to the services at the church.
He was born May 11, 1915, in Sterling to Ira S. and Iva B. (Studer) Martin and married Helen Hoff. She died previously. On March 1, 1986, he married Florence (Hofacre) Snyder. She survives.
He was a 1935 graduate of Smithville High School and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a tool and dye maker at the Crown Steel Co. in Orrville and Wooster for 30 years, retiring in 1981.
He was a charter (life) member of Experimental Aircraft Association and Antique Motor Cycle Association. He enjoyed home built planes, antique Indian and Super-X motorcycles and steam engines.
He was a member of East Chippewa Church of the Brethren.
Surviving in addition to his wife, are children, Carole Martin of Orrville, Priscilla Martin of Wooster and Bruce Martin of Draper, Va.; stepchildren, Wanda (Harold) Jameson of Shreve, Margery (Patrick) Yochheim, Harold (Marlene) Snyder and Thomas (Donetta) Snyder, all of Marshallville; two grandchildren; 13 step-grandchildren; and 13-step-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his first wife, a son, Robert Martin, a stepson, Harry Snyder; a brother, Ervin Martin and a sister, Mae Garver, died previously.
