ORRVILLE -- Robert A. "Bob" Nichols, 74, 422 Danvers Court, formerly of 914 Magnolia Lane, died Thursday evening, Feb. 13, 2003, at his residence after a one-month illness.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday at 2 p.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Orrville, with Father Ronald J. Turek officiating. Burial will be at Crown Hill Cemetery in Orrville.

Friends may call Sunday from 7-9 p.m. at Auble Funeral Home in Orrville.

Bob was born Sept. 12, 1928, in Bernie, Mo., to Floy L. and L. Ruth (Enke) Nichols and married Julia "Charlene" Schrock on Jan. 16, 1954, in St. Louis, Mo. She survives.

He served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1946-49 and graduated from The University of Missouri-Rolla in 1957, with a bachelor of science in mechanical engineering.

He moved to Orrville from Springfield, Ill., in 1975 and worked for the City of Orrville for 20 years, retiring in 1994 as the director of Municipal Utilities.

Bob was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, the Exchange Club, Orrville Knights of Columbus, Sigma Nu Fraternity and was an honorary member of Ohio Municipal Electric Association. He enjoyed all sports and played basketball in college and the Air Force. He especially enjoyed playing golf and horseshoes.

Surviving in addition to his wife, are a son, Bruce Nichols and his fiancee, Suzanne Burton of Cuyahoga Falls and daughters, Ruth Ann Nichols of Champaign, Ill., Barbara (Steve) Alleman and Julia (Arturo) Menchaca, both of Orrville; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Nichols of Orrville; and grandchildren, Chelsea Alleman, Michael Nichols, Jesus Menchaca, Andrea Menchaca and Danielle Menchaca.

He was preceded in death by sons, Robert Allen Nichols and R. Andrew "Andy" Nichols, a brother, Courtney Nichols and a sister, Tina Tate.
