APPLE CREEK - Richard Vincent Marthey, 72, of Apple Creek, died Friday, Sept. 22, 2006, at his home after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Orrville, with the Rev. Father Ronald Turek officiating. Burial will be at Sherwood Memorial Gardens, where military rites will be held.
Friends may call Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Roberts Funeral Home, Sherwood Chapel, Wooster, where the rosary will be recited at 7:45 p.m. Online tributes may be left at www.robertsfuneralhome.com.

Richard was born July 19, 1934, in Maysville to Clayton Stephen and Lucy Clara (Pailliotet) Marthey and married Janice Louise Uhler on June 11, 1960. She survives.
He was a 1952 graduate of Smithville High School and served in the U.S. Army. He then graduated from Kent State University, with a bachelor’s degree in industrial technology.
Richard retired from Bosch Rexroth in 1996, with 37 years of service and was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus in Orrville and the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus in Wooster.
He served as a 4-H adviser and enjoyed fishing, hunting, tinkering, attending auctions and spending time with his family, especially having a “popsy” with his grandsons.
Surviving in addition to his wife, are daughters, Jacquelyn Marthey and Gwendolyn (Steve) Miller, both of Apple Creek; grandsons, Clayton and Zachary Miller; brothers, Hilary (Geraldine) Marthey and Thomas (Jill) Marthey, both of Orrville; sisters, Marjorie Shultzman of Apple Creek, Mary Kinney of Columbus, Geneva Cairnie and Dolores Marthey, both of Orrville and Margaret (Robert) Eby of Independence; a sister-in-law, Verna Marthey of Smithville; and many nieces and nephews.
His parents, a brother, Donald Marthey and sisters, Agnes Seib and Jeannette Meier, died previously.
