Descendants of William Leedom
~
seventh child of John Leedom and Susannah Lancaster

First Generation

1. William Leedom, son of John Leedom and Susanna Lancaster, was born on 1 Apr 1746 in Southampton, Bucks PA 1 and died in 19 Sep 1803.1

General Notes: A William Ledom is listed in 1790 Cheltenham Head of Household census. There are 2 men over 16, 3 males under 16 and 4 women. I currently know only of four children, 3 sons and a daughter, listed in the Southeastern Pennsylvania Birth Index.

Listed immediately beneath William is Joseph Pritchard with 3 men over 16, 3 under 16 and 2 women. Perhaps Joseph is a brother to William's wife Lydia.

This may also be the William Leedom in the 1800 Abington, Montgomery Co census, aged 45 or older and alone in the household though why he is alone is unknown as Lydia outlived him by many years.

• Census: PA, 1790, Cheltenham, Montgomery PA. William Ledom - 2 males over 16, 2 males under 16, 4 females.

Immediate next listing is Joseph Pritchard: 3-3-2 (poss. brother to William's wife Lydia?)

Morning Chronicle 24 Sep 1803
Died, On Monday, the 19th inst., after an illness of four days, William Leedom, Sen. for many years a respectable inhabitant of Abington, Montgomery county, and lately of Pennsylvania.

Poulson's Daily Advertiser 20 Sep 1803
Yesterday evening, after an illness of four days, William Leedom, Senr., for many years a respectable inhabitant of Abington, Montgomery county, and lately of this city. In him his family have lost an upright and steady friend and society a useful citizen.

William married Lydia Pritchard,2 daughter of Thomas Pritchard and Mary (Pritchard), on 13 Apr 1768 in Abington MM, Philadelphia PA. Lydia was born about 1740 and died 8 Jan 1840.1

She is named as Lydia Pritchard in The Leedom Family, no parents given. Marriages and Deaths in Montgomery County names her as Lydia Richard and gives her parents as Thomas and Mary. There are errors in both sources and I have not yet found a third source of documentation for any of the three of them. I am entering her parent's given names here but keeping the surname as Pritchard and will keep searching for any additional records.

Death notice in The North American and Daily Advertiser on 10 Jan 1840
On the morning of the 8th inst. Lydia Leedon (sic), in the 99th year of her age.

Children:

2 M    i. Isaac Leedom was born on 10 Jan 1769 in Abington, Philadelphia PA.3

This Isaac Leedom seems to completely disappear by the 1850 census. The following records are the only ones I have found.

There is one Isaac Leedom (with that exact spelling anyway) indexed at Ancestry in the 1800 census of Radnor, Delaware Co:
1m 26-45, 1m 16-26, 1m 10-16, 2m <10, 1f 26-45, 2f 16-26, 1f 10-16, 1f<10

The only other Isaac Leedom that I've identified in Delaware county at this time was Isaac son of John Leedom and Ruth Strickland. This Isaac though was married first in 1798 and by 1800 had only one young son.

There are no Isaac's indexed under Soundex with a last name that looks as though it could be transcribed incorrectly from the surname Leedom in Delaware, Montgomery or Philadelphia counties in 1800. If the Delaware county census record does refer to Isaac, the son of William Leedom and Lydia Pritchard, there are eight children at that time and a wife about whom I know nothing.

The same person (probably) appears again in 1810, indexed as Isac Ludom, still in Radnor, Delaware Co:
1m >45, 1m 26-45, 2m 16-26, 2m 10-16, 3m<10, 1f 26-45, 2f 16-26, 1f 10-16, 1f<10

In 1820 he is indexed as Isaac Leadham in Radnor, Delaware Co:
1m>45, 1m 26-45, 1m 16-26, 3m 10-16, 3m<10, 1f 26-45, 2f 10-16, 3f<10

In 1830 he is again indexed as Isaac Leadham in Radnor, Delaware Co:
1m 50-60, 1m 20-30, 1m 15-20, 1m 10-15, 2m 5-10, 1m<5, 1f 40-50, 2f 15-20, 1f 10-15, 1f 5-10

In 1840 the index lists him as Isaac Leedom in Radnor, Delaware Co:
1m 60-70, 1m 20-30, 1m 15-20, 3m 10-15, 2f 20-30, 1f 15-20, 1f 10-15
-------
There is a document put before the 1st Session of the 23rd U.S Congress dated 7 Apr 1834 in which citizens of Delaware County, Pennsylvania "petition the Government for a redress of their grievances", asking for a "restoration of the public deposites, and a renewal of the charter of the Bank of the United States". The petition is undersigned by nineteen pages of the printed names of the citizens. On page thirteen is listed Isaac Leedom and Isaac Leedom Jr. (Page sixteen also has the name of James Lancaster Jr - unknown if this might be a relation of Susannah Lancaster, wife of John Leedom.)

The Isaac Leedom above may be the son of John Leedom and Ruth Strickland. This Isaac did have a son Isaac who would have been about 27 years old in 1832.
-------
The Wheeling Daily Register dated 27 Aug 1875 included a paragraph from the The Ritchie Gazette listing twenty-five citizens of that county who were over the age of 80 years. Named among those citizens in Isaac Leedom, age 80. (Also listed is a Peter Pritchard, age 80.)
