Descendants of Richard Wayne
Information on the Wayne ancestry was found in The
English Ancestry of the Wayne Family by Edwin Sellers, 1927, and in correspondence
with Robert Wayne. (Robert's website was devoted to General "Mad" Anthony Wayne
but has now disappeared. I have not been able to contact Robert at any of the
addresses I had for him.)
My main interest in this family is
to find more information about Ann Wayne, born about 1712 in County Wicklow Ireland, and her husband
Samuel McCue and their family. There is profuse use of the same given names in many
generations with many spelling variations in all generations of the Wayne families. I present them here as found
in the Sellers book, as a possibility for further research.
First Generation
1. Richard Wayne was born in Herthill, Derby ENG and died after 11 Nov 1431 in Herthill, Derby ENG.
Notes: Granted by John Hyklyng Esq. and his wife Joan land called Hill Place (Birchover) located in the hundred of High Peak and Archdeaconry of Derbyshire

Anthony married Mary Penrose, daughter of Bartholomew Penrose and Mary Kirll, on 25 Mar 1766 in Christ Church, Philadelphia PA. Hannah married Samuel Van Leer in 1770 in St. David's Episcopal Church Cemetery, Radnor PA. Samuel was born in 1747, died in 1825, and was buried in St. Mary's Episcopal Church, Warwick PA.
Notes: Son of Bernardhus Van Leer and Mary Branson (m. 1733).
His last will and testament was given orally just before he died at his daughter's--Ann Templin. It reflects his disaffection with his remaining sons in that he explicitly stated "nothing goes to my sons."
..."I wish all my property to be divided among my four daughters, Betsy, Mary, Hannah and Nancy unless Leedoms children bring anything against me, then they are to have nothing."
He afterwards said "I wish all my personal property sold and divided among my four daughters..." And on being asked if he wished his wearing appareal sold, he said "No....My sons are to have nothing." And further he said "I wish you to take notice that this is my will." - Estell Cremers, Reading Furnace, 1736
His statement about "Leedom" refers to Mary's husband. Her husband,
William Leedom, had investment interests in the Vanleer forges. If the Leedom children also sued him, he wanted them cut out of the inheritance.

Mary married William Leedom, son of
William Leedom and Lydia Pritchard. William was born on 4 Sep 1773 in Abington, Philadelphia PA 6 and died in 1819.5
Mary and William's son Samuel Van Leer Leedom left Philadelphia and settled in
Hart Co KY, where he started an iron business with Simon Bolivar Buckner,
probably an uncle of his wife Jane Ayette Wood. (See

information.) 87 M vi. Anthony Van Leer was born on 6 Apr 1783.
Notes: Married Rebecca Brady 6/12/1816. There were 7 children, but only 2 daughters survived to adulthood.
88 F vii. Ann Van Leer was born on 10 Feb 1786, died in Aug 1845, and was buried in St. Mary's Episcopal, East Nantmeal PA.
Notes: Married John Templin (born 1774, died
4 Jun 1856), the younger brother of Samuel Templin who married Ann's older sister, Elizabeth. They were the sons of William (1740-1818) and Hannah Dodson Templin.
89 F viii. Hannah Van Leer was born on 10 Feb 1786 and died in 1822.
Notes: Married John (Jacob) Halderman in 1806. Mr. Halderman owned Hibernia Furnace in Pennsylvania. They moved to Ohio before 1815 and then to Estill County, Kentucky. In 1820, the Haldermans moved to Hart County, Kentucky, and operated Aetna Furnace
for a number of years.
