I am looking for information on where the town of Slaton, Texas (just south of Lubbock) got it's name.  I am descended from Daniel Slayden & Nancy Pounds in Georgia.  It is my understanding that when the Slaydens moved west they changed the spelling of thier name.  They supposedly settled around Lubbock and the town of Slaton is named after them.  There is a Slaton (Middle or High) School in Lubbock and I was also wondering who that was named for.  Any info on this historically query would be appreciated.  Thanks, Terry L. Sutton nee Gross

I have been working on the Slaten/Slaton bunch for about ten years.  In fact I have self-published a family history entitled THE SLATEN BUNCH.  I am pleased to announce my own web page, THE SLATEN BUNCH, AT:
http://hometown.aol.com/jslaten/myhomepage/index.html
I haven't added anything to the web page yet, because I haven't learned how.  I have great plans for future use of the web page.  I need contributors. I have my line all figured out to George Washington Slaton, b. s.c.,1799 d. Monroe Co., Tenn. 1895.  I'm not certain beyond that.  I think I can connect to John Sladden, London, Kent, England, 1692.  I really need information between John 1692 and George Washington Slaton, 1799. I need to know if anyone out there has researched beyond 1799 on the parents and/or grandparents of George Washington Slaton, b. S.C. 1799, d. Monroe County, Tennessee 1895.  Thanks.  Joe Slaten

SLATTEN/SLATEN - My Angeline (maiden name unknown) married a Slatten (varius spellings) gent whose name may have been Thomas, in or near Carroll or Haralson County, Georgia; they had two children: Samantha J. and Thomas A. - Mr. Slatten died, leaving Angeline a widow; she then married my LITTLETON RILEY JEAN in 1859 Carroll County, Georgia.  They had: Georgia S. Jean, Ezra Jean, Johnnie Jean and Zadok who apparently died young.  Would appreciate very much know the maiden name of:  Angeline.  When second hubby Littleton Riley Jean died in Alabama where they moved to Winston/Marshall Counties, she applied for his pension under her true name of: TANZA A. JEAN.  Any information on an Angeline or Tanza A. Slatten (being her first married name) would be much appreciated.  Thank you. Hazel Kidd Lawson

I am the granddaughter of Addie Slayton, who's father was Daniel Slayden from Livingston County Kentucky. She later moved to Missouri where she married a George DeRousse from the Portageville area. I am looking for any information about Daniel, his brothers and sisters, as well as the DeRousse family. The spelling was changed after Addie married George. Their marriage license has the spelling DeRousse, but my father and all of his brothers have always spelled it DeRoush. We believe the spelling was erroniously changed on the oldest son, George's, birth records. If you have any information about either of these families, please share it with me. I will share with you what I have found.
Marty A. DeRoush
