In a booklet held by Ronald MORRISON that details the history of the Masonic Lodge in Duns (1726 to 1813), John CAMPBELL is described as "surgeon in Dunse and supposed an Irishman". [926]
Ronald MORRISON also writes: [926]
"He obviously found little favour with the established Lodge which he initially endeavoured to join it being recorded:
'The Secretary informed the brethren that he had received a letter signed by John Campbell calling himself a brother and wishing to be admitted to the Lodge. Upon this it was moved that John Campbell was a very improper person to be admitted into this or any other Lodge as being of very doubtful character and of whom many bad storys are told and this motion being seconded the Lodge unanimously refused to admit Campbell amongst them'."
John CAMPBELL then established his own lodge in Duns to rival that of the Masonic. [926] |
