Henry Boeke was born in Germany, the oldest of seven children. His family immigrated to America in 1852 aboard the Johann Schmidt (sailing from Breman to New Orleans). They settled in rural Rock Run Township, Stephenson Co., IL, in a German-immigrant area known locally as Epleyanna (just west of Davis), where Henry was raised. The family name, Böke in German, was anglicized to Boeke, and eventually to Bakey.

Louise Runte was born in the Epplyanna area to recent German immigrants, the fifth of ten children, and the first of the family born in America. She was raised in Epplyanna.

Henry and Louise were married in 1877 at St. Paul's Church in Epleyanna, where both families were members. Henry and Louise settled on a farm in the Davis area, where they raised three children. Both are buried in the cemetery at St. Paul's.

Children of Henry and Louise Boeke:

1. Maria Caroline Amalia 'Mary' Bakey, b. 22 Aug 1880.
2. Louise Amalia Dorothea Bakey, b. 15 Oct 1882; d. 10 Dec 1960. She m. Herbert BOWERMAN. They had child Catherine.
3. Frederick Heinrich Bakey, b. 30 Sep 1885; d. 4 Apr 1954. He was never married and had no issue.
