William fought in South Africa in the Boer War.
William and Emma immigrated to America in 1888, along with William's mother. They lived in Iowa and Minnesota before settling in Rockford. William was naturalized on 12 Oct 1895, in Tama County, IA.
After the death of Emma, William lived in Delavan with his son.
Their son Cecil was killed in a tragic accident when his truck was struck by a train. According to my grandma Moore, the family suspected that the accident was actually a suicide. A coroner's inquest was held, but I haven't found any reported results.
