Mahlon and Charity settled in Bucks Co., PA. They migrated west to Belmont Co., OH in 1817. They were a Quaker family, members of Nottingham MM, transfering to Plymouth-Smithfield MM (Jefferson Co., OH) in 1815, and to Stillwater MM (Belmont Co., OH) in 1818.

- Joseph A. Hartley, b. 30 Oct 1807; d. 2 Aug 1890 in Belmont Co. He m. (1) Sarah HALL 2 Oct 1838 in Stillwater. They had children Issac, Henry, Eli, Noah, Jesse, Martha, and Zimri. He m. (2) Maria BAILEY 28 Aug 1844 in Stillwater. They had children Joseph, Mary, and Sarah.
- Elizabeth Hartley, b. before 1815. She m. Jesse HALL 28 Sep 1831 in Stillwater. They had children Noah, Charity, Stephen, Joseph, Mary, George S., Sarah, John, Mahlon, Phebe, Ephraim, and Jesse Franklin.
- John Hartley, b. before 1815, d. 20 Sep 1885 in MacArthur, OH. He m.(1) Zilpah HALL 2 Feb 1826. They had children Charity, James, David, Isaac, Benjamin, Peninah, Joel, and Mary. He m. (2) Sarah STEARS 29 Mar 1843 in Stillwater. They had child Elizabeth. He m. (3) Anna WILLIAMS 1 Jun 1887 in Stillwater. They had children Rebecca and John.
- Melinda Hartley, b. before 1815. She m. Benjamin KESTER 24 Dec 1829 in Stillwater. They had children Mary, Mahlon, Abi, Ephraim Williams, Melissa, Phebe Ann, and Charity.
- Noah Hartley, b. before 1815; d. 2 Nov 1889 in Stillwater. He m. Millicent HALL 27 Sep 1827 in Stillwater. They had children Maryann, Mahlon, Phoebe, John, William, Joseph, Malinda, Uriah, Cyrus, Caleb, Samuel, Sarah Eleanor, and Noah.
