RATIONALE: soc.genealogy.italian

There is a large interest in the creation of a group to discuss of Italian
Genealogy and Family Heraldry. There are a lot of mailing lists and web
sites dedicated to this subject, but a real focal point is missing, so that
often people working in this are does not know each other. This group may
represent a natural and immediate point of reference for all those people.

CHARTER: soc.genealogy.italian

VALID SUBJECTS

Valid subjects for soc.genealogy.italian group are, for example

[questions about where you can find information]

For example: Which office should I contact to obtain the Birth
Certificate of Pippo XYZ, born in Turin in 1796? Is there a State
Archive in Florence? Where the following book can be found?

[debates on Heraldry and History] (see note *)

For example: Is there any book on Fourth Crusade? What is vajo? Why
there is an ear on my family's coat of arms?

[origin and meaning of family and given Italian names]

For example: What does Arcibaldo mean? Which is the origin of Spinola
family? Is Furlan an Italian family name?

[information on magazines, books, and other sources]

For example: Look at http://www.italgen.com: there is an interesting
page on XYZ. Where can I find a good book on Heraldry in Milan? Is
there a good bibliography on the Bishops in XVII century?

--------
NOTE (*) Debates on HERALDRY and HISTORY are intended to be related
to genealogy, not general discussions on those subjects. For example,
Heraldry: you might be interested to know the meaning of the Coat of
Arms of your family or to translate the family motto from Latin.
History: you found out that an ancestor of yours participated to a
Crusade or was the Bishop of a specific town. So you want to know
more on that Crusade or on Bishops in that town.

downloaded from? Is there an Italian program for OS/2 to manage a
genealogy?
