Elizabeth was born 1843 in Sherbrooke, Haldimand Co., Ontario, the daughter of Thomas Logan and Laura Root Logan. The seventh child of thirteen, only ten lived to adulthood. Sylvanus was the son of Benjamin Morningstar and Leah Stoner. He was born 1838 in Port Colbourne, Welland Co., Ontario. He was the youngest of ten children. By the 1861 Census, Elizabeth age 21, was living at home, as Elizabeth Morningstar. It is possible that she was expecting son Thomas B. who was born about 1861. In 1871 Elizabeth was living in Williams West, Middlesex County with Sylvanus, sons Thomas B. and William A. Elizabeth and Sylvanus had three more children, Martha Alice 1868, Albert 1870 and Henry John Logan 1871. At the time of the 26 June 1880 U.S Census, Sylvanus was living in the City of Springfield, Clark Co., Ohio. Sylvanus, 42, Machinist, Priscilla, 15, keeping house, Martha, 12, at home, Albert 10, at home. All born Canada. Where is Elizabeth? She had to be living, since they did not marry until 1887. Thomas & William are no doubt working and living elsewhere. They may have stayed in Canada. Priscilla is the daughter of Sylvanus and Priscilla Miller, his first marriage. The death date of Priscilla Miller Morningstar in unknown. As of the April 1881 Ontario Census, Henry John Logan Morningstar, 10, was living with Richard and Mary Ann Logan Pew. Mary Ann was Elizabeth's sister. Family lore says that Elizabeth called John 'Star'. Elizabeth and Sylvanus did not marry until 5 April 1887 at Buffalo, Erie County, New York, Why they waited so long is a mystery. Marriage record found in Buffalo, Erie Co., New York. Latter Day Saints Fiche #6010985 'Early Canadian Marriages in Erie County, N.Y.' by Allen E. Jewitt, Hamburg, New York, 1982. This was Sylvanus' second marriage, Elizabeth's first. Sylvanus and Elizabeth resided in Buffalo, Erie County, New York at the time of the 1900 living at 2697 Main Street and 1910 Census living at 15 Parker Avenue. No children were present. They stated that they were born in March 1838 and May 1843. I have changed my database to reflect the new dates. The 1900 Census stated that they had been married 12 years, his second marriage, her first. This would reflect the 1887 Buffalo marriage record. They had moved to the U.S in 1895. Sylvanus passed away 21 Oct 1926 and is buried in the Mennonite Cemetery, Morningstar plot, Warwick, Lambton Co., Ontario. Elizabeth is not buried in that cemetery, Her internment date and place is not known. Family notes: Martha Alice married Cyrenus Philander Barrick 04 Sep 1884. They had 6 children.
