1880's: During Francis' second marriage, he migrated from Pennsylvania with his second wife and the two children born of the second marriage. He worked his way west to Kansas, Nebraska, and eventually Oklahoma.
1889: Dakota Territory was divided into two new states, North & South Dakota. Francis Edgar went into central Oklahoma with the "first run" of homesteaders when Indian territory was opened to settlers. He homesteaded 160 acres adjacent to Garber, OK and established and operated a hotel and grocery store in Garber. He lived in a large frame house on Main Street until his death in 1902.
