War of 1812 Sprouse Pension Files in the National Archives

certificate dated 2/10/1872 Warrant # 16943-80-55
served in Wm Woods Company, Va Militia 27/July/1814 to 2/1815. Was residence of Lewis Co., West Virginia. between age of 85 + 90 as of 1871. Wife Nancy married in Albemarle Co., Va. April 4, 1814. Wife listed as Nancy Sprouse.

*Martin Sprouse S.O 14795, S.C. 9407 W.O 33178, W.C. 24005
83y/o as of 4/29/1871. At that time a resident of Wilkesville, Vinton Co., Ohio. Married to Polly Holcomb (previously married to Benjamin Holcomb and they one son William who was 49 y/o on Aug 28, 1789) 8/Sept/184? in Vinton Co., Ohio. Was in Huntington Township in Galic Co., Ohio and moved to Jeffersonville, Fayette Co., Ohio. Him and Polly had four children Steward (born 1 year after marriage), Henry (born 2-3 years after marriage), Hiriam? and Josephine (married William Marks) in order of age. Steward and Hiriam both served in the Army, both in listed in 1861 and served three years. Both died after returning home, not sure how long after, but both died about the same time. Henry and Josephine both still alive in 1880. Henry and his wife had five children, he lived in Huntington Township in Galic Co., Ohio. A letter in his pension file that stated that he was a poor man who could have used the money. Also stated that he moved from farm to farm due to money problems.

* John N. Sprouse BLWT 28973 80-50 + 12230-80-55, W.O 499, W.C. 497 wife Sally resided in Vinton Co., Ohio 82 y/o as of 4/12/1871 lived in Township of Wilkesville. Married Sally Aleshire at Salem Township, Miegs Co, Oh. was part of Galic Co., Ohio. John died June 19, 1878. Sally was 80 y/o 10/10/1878. Josiah Sprouse listed in pension file but no relation given, he is listed as being 59 y/o and living in Wilkesville Township in Vinton, Co., Ohio. Last payment made 6/19/1878.

* James Sprouse W.O. 33962
wife Polly Swigert she lived in Independance? township, Montgomery Co., Kentucky on Aug 9/Nov/1878. James married Polly on 10/4/1817 by Geo W. Boone of Fayette Co., Kentucky. James died at Champayne Co., Illinois on the 4/Sept/1865. Polly was 78 y/o in 1878. Her application was rejected 4/23/1880.

80 y/o as of 4/19/1871 in Union township, Pike County, Ohio. "Is not now, but was married to Nancy Walton at Cabbell Co., Va 1814. Drafted in Capt
Dixon 4th Va. Militia 4/1814 and discharges at Cabbell Co., Va (Norfolk) 6/29/1814.
