Hello and welcome to all my fellow Sprouse/Sprouce researchers. Many other spellings exist of this surnames and we aren't limited to these two spelling variations. Virginia

Jeff Miller - Your Web Host - Researching Sprouse's from Virginia area, The Sprouse family appears to be seen first in the Colonies in Virginia. One of these are Vincent and Mary of Albemarle and Fluvania counties. The Sprouse family first appears in the area in 1720. With Vincent and Mary Sprouse, They are believe to have had seven children including Henry(ca1746) married Tabitha Thacker, Thomas(ca1748) married Mary Thacker, William (ca1750) married Mary (?), Lucy(ca 1752 married David Sprouse, Vincent Jr.(ca1760) married Elizabeth (?), John(ca1762) married Mrs. Appleton and James(ca1764). All the children appear to stay in the area until 1790 when a few members moved to South Carolina, Ohio, and Penn. Vincent and Mary 's granddaughter Catherine L. stayed in Albemarle and married John Jr. Sprouse in 1829. John Catherine had nine children including (MY DIRECT LINE) Richard Noland Sprouse 1849-1921 married Francis Lankford 1844-1928, their other son Burwell Sprouse 1850-1915 married Anna Gibson 1856-1918. There are many other Sprouse's in the area that all seem to be related to the original Vincent and Mary.

Steve Stevens- Arthur and Linda Sprouse - searching for information on Sprouse's in Albemarle Co., Virginia Specifically John Sprouse who married Betsy Carver 1810 and had one know son Gideon Sprouse. Thought I would briefly send you the main male lines. We have reached a block at John Sprouse, married 12-03-1810 in Albemarle Co. Can't find his parents or date of birth. We do know his wife was Elizabeth, (Betsy Carver). The marriage bond was missing in Charlottesville. The only children we know of are Gideon, born about 1829, married 12-27-1852 to Cornelia Thomas and a son John born abt 1835. This Gideon is a direct line to Arthur's family. We just can't get further back but can come forward 8 generations. Will be glad to share. Gideon and Cornelia's (Neily) children were: Margaret, L. A.(we think this is Lillie Annie, through verbal history) listed as a female in census, Gideon Sprouse, Jr., Richard, James, William, Stephen C., Fannie, John, Chris, Mary and Maude. Gideon Sprouse, Jr. was married to Lee Wade, with children: Callie, Minnie, and Frank. However, this line changed their name to Spruce, although also a direct line. We just found this out a few weeks ago. Plus, by verbal history, Gideon Jr. went by the name "Son." Can't tell you how long it took to find that out his given name! Richard married Susan Evans 6-6-1883, children: Louis L., Lampkin, Willie, Lucy Annie, Richard, Frank W., Simon and Madison. William married Rowena Hooper, children: Haywood, Florine, Robert S., Edward, Melvin, Dorothy, Gertrude, and Harry. Stephen married Lillian Augusta Saulsbury, children: Arthur Gideon, Linwood, Herbert, Ernest Sr., John O., Thomas and Adolphus. Arthur Gideon married Maud Elizabeth Daniel: children: Arthur E Sprouse, Sr., Myrtle Elizabeth and Katherine A. Sprouse. Arthur E. Sprouse Sr. married Beulah White, children: Dolores N., Glenda F. and Arthur E. Jr.

Danny Sprouse - William Arthur Sprouse b 1832 died 11 September 1883- he was born in Augusta Co. VA (? He is in the 1850 census of Augusta Co with his parents, William and Elizabeth, and his sister Mary (Polly). He is in the 1860 census of Augusta Co VA with his sister Mary, parents gone.) William's mother was Elizabeth A. Freeman, who was born in Culpeper Co. Va., daughter of Robert Freeman.

E. Blaine Sprouse - My father was Abraham Wine Sprouse, born 1911, one of nine children who were born in the early the 1900's in or around Augusta Co. VA. Estelline Furnace, Va, to be exact. My father's father was Henry Harrison Sprouse, born 11/4/1880 in Fordwick, VA, died 11/12/1970 in Staunton, VA. He married Maggie Windsor of Allentown, PA, who was born 4/9/1881, died 1/3/1957. My grandfather (Henry Harrison Sprouse, or "H.H. Sprouse," as he was known by friends) was the son of Elijah Mark Sprouse and Mary Hannah Jackson. I am afraid that is as far as my search has taken me to date. Please, any help on this would be greatly appreciated. I also wish to research further back on the Windsor line. Maggie Windsor's mother was Mary Ingram, born 1845, died ???? in Bells Valley, VA. Herman Windsor was Maggie's father and he was born in 1839 and died 7/29/1899. I believe his father was Fredrick Windsor, born in 1804 and died sometime in 1850-60. His mother was Caroline, born 1799, died 1860-70. I believe Mary Ingram's father was Alex Ingram, born about 1820 and her mother was Elizabeth ????, born about 1820.

Jean Sprouse - Samuel Louis Sprouse: born 8-31-39, married Jean. Samuel was the son of Albert Louis Sprouse(b: Roanoke Va.) and Gladys Lane. Albert was the son of T. W. Sprouse(? Thomas William) first unknown wife died and he remarried to unknown. Other children include, Albert Louis, Thomas W. (live in Roanoke (91) years old as of 3/1998, Louise Sprouse Beale, just passed away last week 2/20/1998, lived in Salem, Va., Addie Sprouse Harris, who is in her 70's lives somewhere near Roanoke, and a Blanch Sprouse Abbott (Lacy) but is deceased. We are not real sure to which of the Sprouse's the Grandfather T.W. came from. There is a daughter of Blanch who lives in Roanoke, she is married to Leonard Huffman.

Michael Sporuse - Hi my name is Michael Sprouse of richmond VA. I am writing to see if you might have any information that might be useful to tracking my heritage. My father Clarence Sprouse was born to George William Sprouse of Buckingham county Born around 1884.. He was married to Elizabeth Ann Maston of Augusta Co. Born around the same time. I would apreciate any help you could offer.

Olivia Sprouse - Olivia's husband Barry Sprouse descends from Oscar Shelton Sprouse, b. 24 Sept 1914, Eastham, VA, Brothers and Sisters:Venard, Russell, Roy, George, Thornton, Edna, Grace, Evie, Belle, Lee and Sadie--Oscar was the youngest, no birth date on others. Oscar's dad: Rueben Shelton Sprouse, a carpenter, married Martha Georgia Marsh, DOB and wedding dates unknown.

Robert Lee Sprouse Jr. - My Great grandfather's name was Benjamin Sprouse. He lived in Amherst County Virginia. Which a one time used to be part of Albemarle County. I also know his people were from the Charlottesville area. I also remember that my great grandmother telling me of some records destroyed in a fire. My Great Grandmother's name was Lottie Lee Sprouse I have no idea her maiden name. He was born sometime in the late 1800's and died in the 1930's in Amherst County. They had kids named Mildred, Louise, Henry, Otis, Nellie,Margret and Isabelle. There's is also another Sprouse which I have been told was a cousin of Benjamin his name is Harry Sprouse who lived in Amherst County.

Raymond Butcher - Mavis F. Sprouse - Buckingham Co.Sprouses (Sprouses Corner) - (John?) Rowland Sprouse m. Martha Gibson (2/21/1811), son Henry Westley Sprouse b. 1826, (Buckingham Co.?) (Maybe Chesterfield Co.) had 14 children by 2 wifes. Two of the sons went to North Carolina in the 1890's to the gold rush (William S. & John Josiah).

Sue (Burris) Burton - Samuel Sprouse b: 1818 in VA - d: ca 1878-1880 - parents unknown m: 24 Mar 1841 in Bedford co.,Va. Sarah Joiner b: ca 1828 in VA., .dau of John & Doshia Joiner of Bedford Co VA. Their children: 1. Doshia Sprouse, b abt 1842 Bedford Co. Va 2. Mary F. Sprouse, b abt 1844 Bedford Co. VA 3. *Thomas W. Sprouse, b abt 1846 Bedford Co. VA...was in the Civil War (light artillery for Lynchburg City) 4. *John William Sprouse "Burton", b April 27,1848 Lynchburg, Bedford Co. VA...d July 16, 1916 Donaldson, Hot Spring Co. AR ( my husband's great grandfather) 5. William M. Sprouse, b abt 1851 Bedford Co. VA, 6. *Amanda N. Sprouse, b abt 1853 Bedford Co. VA - 1870 Chesterfield Co. VA Census Record, living in a boarding house, listed as a "weaver", is 18 yrs old & her name is also misspelled as "SPROUTS". 7. *Minerva Belle Sprouse, b Dec 2, 1955 Bedford Co. VA...d April 21, 1897 Lynchburg, VA...m Reid Alexander Goolsby on Sept 13, 1876 Lynchburg, VA (both are buried in the Old Lynchburg Cemetery, Headstones are just out side the main entry gate. 8. Martha Sprouse, b Jan 1858...d June 1, 1858 ( at age 6 mo.) Bedford Co. VA, 9. *Shelton Sprouse, b abt 1859.

Hazel Bailey - I have a Dyer Sprouse in my family. He was born c 1825 in Albemarle Co. Married Dicy Gibson on July 17, 1855 in Albemarle. He died on July 15, 1862 of direahea contracted in the Civil War. Records show he was sent home on sick leave and died while on leave. He was buried in Albemarle Co. (I have not been able to find where). Also on Dyer's marriage certificate his mother is listed as Ceclia. I think his father was John, but have not been able to prove it.

Lorilyn K. Coggins - I am looking for information on Harriet Rebecca Sprouse who was born 12/15/1865 in West Virginia. I thought it was Wood County, but my cousin tells me it was in Preston County. I know that her parents were William Sprouse and Maria Rinehart. What I am really curious about is whether I have Native American ancestry. Pictures of Harriet lead the family to believe that she was of Indian heritage and the family stories say that her grandmother was a full-blooded Indian. So, I guess that I am really curious about William's mother or Maria' mother (or maybe grandmothers).

Judith Conner - I am trying to make a connection of my gggrandfather, William Sprouse with your line. He was born 1803, died 1 Apr 1856 in Augusta Co, Va. His wife was Elizabeth ____, born 1817, died August 1857 in Augusta Co, Va. Both deaths are recorded in the Augusta Co. Records of Deaths. They had nine children: Mary, William, James, John, George Burley. Susan, Elizabeth, Matilda, Stuart. Eighth born Matilda was born in 1847 in Augusta Co. Va. She married John H. Pickrell. They had four daughters and one son. This is my line.

Kenny Faris - My grandfather's sister Mary Lucy Faris married a John F. Sprouse 22 Sept. 1881 in Albemarle Co, Va. They had the following children 1. Stonewall 2. Richard Westly 3. Ellis 4. Gracie.....

Steve Stevens - Eb Sprouse and Rosa B Harlow marriage. I would like more information on these two if you have it. Also it is Rosabelle Harlow. They are my g-grandparents and are buried at Riverview Cemetery in Charlottesville, VA.

Diane Miller - My husband's great-grandmother was a Sprouse from Lewis Co., WV. I have traced her family back 2 more generations to Fleming Sprouse - he was married in 1844 in Lewis Co. He was born around 1822, but I do not know where. He showed up in Lewis Co. with a couple other Sprouse's who were from Albemarle, but I have not been able to tie him to Albemarle Co. When Fleming was first in Lewis Co., the 2 Sprouse's also in Lewis were Washington (m/ Caty Anderson in 1830 Albemarle) and Benjamin (m. Nancy in Lewis Co.1841). In 1850 census, Benjamin and Fleming claimed to be 28 and Washington 38. Also, eventually, Tandy Sprouse showed up in Lewis County censuses. He was a bondsman in both Washington and Fleming's marriages. Tandy does connect back to Albemarle - he was married there. Until I learn otherwise I am going to look into the possibility of Tandy being Fleming's father. I don't know much about Tandy other than he was in War of 1812, seemed to move around a lot. Some of Fleming's children were George, Lucinda, Martha, Washington, and Sarah, Deby, Eliza, Henry. Fleming's son Washington P. Sprouse (b. 1847, d. 1928 m1. Sophia Osborne) is in the direct line.

Lynita Sprouse Nobles - I was born in Crozet, Virginia, (Albemarle County). My dad's father, William Henry Sprouse, Sr. was born in 1900. I'm anxious to find my great grandfather.

James Skaggs - Looking for any information on Stuart M. SPROUSE, b. 1847 and d. 11-02-1910 as a result of a cave-in in Staunton, Virginia, m. Dossie Faulkner When Stuart died, he left a widow and five daughters and a son. One of the daughters was Flossie Viola Sprouse, b. 08-13-1878, Springhill/Swoop, Va. d. 04-26-1848 in Harrisonburg, Virginia. Flossie married John Baker Sutton, b.12-01-1877 and died in Staunton, Va. 07-28-1948. I would like to hear from anyone that has more information on these families. Stuart and Dossie are my GGrandfather/mother. John Baker Sutton and Flossie Viola Sprouse is my Grandfather/mother. The Daily News Leader (newspaper) printed a special edition on 04-19-1997 about the history of Staunton about the cave-in as a result of underground river flowing right in the downtown of Staunton. Apparently, Stuart was the only human-being that lost his life as the results of several cave-ins which started on August 11, 1910 and then 2 and 1/2 months later is when the cave-ins claimed the first human life, my GGrandfather.

Emma Turner - James Sprouse whose will was filed in 1800 was my ggggGrandfather. His children were Rachel Thacker Dalton, my gggGrandmother; sons Thomas, Nicholas, Nelson, and Martin. I have Nicholas and Nelson's marriage dates to the Pace sisters, Susan and Mary. Nelson signed a bond when Rachel's daughter (Salina) married George Gibson on December 22, 1824. Nelson died a few years after his marriage to Mary Pace and she was pregnant at the time of his death. Salina and George Gibson's daughter (Louisa) married Wm. Alexander Sprouse (went by the name of Alexander or Sandy). Their first daughter was Mary and their first son was Benjamin Franklin Sprouse. I think that instead of looking in Louisa County as I have been doing, I must expand my search to include Albemarle, Fluvanna or Augusta to find Wm. Alexander Sprouse's parents - he was born about 1817. Does anybody have info on a Benjamin Sprouse that could perhaps be Wm. Alexander's father? On the 1800 tax list of Albemarle a Benjamin Sprouse was listed. Does anybody have more info on him. My reasoning for looking into Benjamin is that Louisa and Wm. Alexander named their first son Benjamin and some people are saying that the first son is named after his paternal Grandfather.

Lucille West - My Great grandfather, Morris Sprouse was born 1831 in Albermarle Couty, Virginia. He died 3/27/1905 and is buried at Fairview Cemetery on Courtney Ridge, Wirt Co. WV. His tombstone, read Cpl. Morris Sprouse, Company A, 9th W.Va. Inf. I am trying to find out where in Albermarle County, VA, he was born. Info I have lists his parents as George & Eliza ? Sprouse. Who were his brothers and sisters? Morris's first wife was Amelia Jane Boice, they married 5/6/1851 in Wirt Co. WV. They had 3 children, George Sprouse, b 1852; Morris Edward Sprouse, b 1857 & married Manerva Bryant 10/10/1889; and Samule J. Sprouse, b 1860 & married Ella Sterling 6/2/1881. Morris' second wife was Hannah M. Quick (my great grandmother), they mararied 1/31,1867. He was 36 years old and she was 20. They had 8 children. Martha, b 12/14/1867, d 3/10/1957, married Henry Farnsworth; Mary Ella (Ellie). b 1871, d 1940's, married George Williams; Eliza A. (Lyde), b 7/1873, d 1930's, married James M. Russell; Morris d 1/15/1882, age 2 yrs.; Effie (Nettie) Elizabeth ((my grandmother)) b 10/4/1881, d 4/16/1957, married Tobe Wigal; John S., b 1884, d. 10/22/1884; William A. (Billie) b 1888, died 1950, Married Ruth Russell. I have more info on Morris & Hannah's children. I would like more information on who Morris was before he moved to Wirt County, West Virginia. Any help would be appreciated.

Andy Sprouse - Grandfather= Edward Lewis Sprouse (1902-1985) Married to Ermie Hill Sprouse(1914-1991). Granddaddy had 1 brother whose name I knew, but he had other brothers and sisters. Grandaddy was from Hot Springs, NC. This one brothers name was Martin Luther Sprouse.(1904-1980? something) His sons name was Bill Sprouse (William? ) and he last lived in Tennesee to the best of my knowledge. Also from Hot Springs, NC. My father name is Gordon Ray Sprouse (1937-still living)born in Pink Hill, NC. Lives in Dinwiddie, VA. One Uncle is Charles Allen Sprouse ( 1935?-still living) born in Pink Hill, NC. Lives in Dinwiddie, VA Another uncle is Johnny Wayne Sprouse ( 1940? - 1998) Born in Pink Hill, NC. Deceased (cancer) Aunt= Orabelle Sprouse (was the oldest of father's siblings, but dont know anything about her she died before I was born.) Aunt= Edna Sprouse Taylor (dont know age, married to William Taylor) Lives somewhere in VA. Aunt= Irene Sprouse Martin (married to Carter Wayne Martian) I also have brothers named Timothy Wayne Sprouse, Dean Earl Sprouse, and Jerry Lee Sprouse; My would be oldest brother, Gordon Ray Sprouse Jr, died before I was born.

Arkansas - Illinois

Martin Reed - My fraternal grandmother was Mattie Armatage Sprouse b. 1 Jun 1875 in Mt. Vernon, Jefferson Co., IL: d. 14 Jun 1949 Avoca, Benton Co., AR. She Married Martin Luther Reed on 30 Oct 1895 in Imboden, Lawrence Co., AR. They had four children Ralph Lavelle Reed, Mildred M. Reed, William Henry Clay Reed, and James Iverson Reed (my father). Mattie's parents were John Calvin Sprouse b. 24 Dec 1833 d. 22 Mar 1895 and Martha Lucinda Jarrell b. 23 Nov 1843 d. 5 Oct 1880. Mattie's siblings were Cyntha Emily Catherine Sprouse, Eva Maud Sprouse, James Lewis Sprouse, John Rufus Sprouse, Joseph Edgar Sprouse, Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Sprouse, Minnie Helena Sprouse, and William Henry Sprouse. Mattie's paternal grandmother was married to an unknown Sprouse. She was named Cynthia and is believed to have been born about 1805 in Pennsylvania.

California - Colorado

Patrcia Sprouse Pelletier - Ezra Lee Sprouse m: Maude Wells children - Robert, Margaret and Roy - My maiden name is Patricia Sprouse, and I am in the process of trying to uncover my family history. It is an interesting story so let me tell you everything I know. My grandfather, Robert Louis Sprouse lost his mother, Maude Wills or Wells, due to child birth at a young age, and was orphaned when his father Ezra Lee Sprouse was killed while working for a railroad around 1917. He had an older sister named Margaret Sprouse, and possibly a youger brother named Roy Lee. Robert was born December 7, 1909, and we think it was in Brawley, California. He was put in an orphanage home in Los Angles and ran away when he was in his early teens due to abuse. When he was 18 he returned for his records only to find the orphanage had burned down with all of the records.

Georgia

Annette Gentzel - Joel Sprouce married Mary H. Thompson. They are listed in the 1860 Georgia census with the following children: Margaret Jane, Charles, William, W.F., Emily, Wade H., and David Y. I believe Joel Sprouce died as a POW during the Civil War at Camp Chase in Columbus, Ohio. Margaret Jane is my great-great grandmother. Margaret Jane Sprouse was born 7 Sept 1846 in Georgia. At some point, she married John T. Mann and moved to Abbeville, South Carolina as that is where my great grandmother (Margaret Mae Mann) was born. Margaret Jane Sprouse Mann died 10 Feb 1931.

Debbie Buckner - Charles H. Sprouse and his family are listed on the 1900 Census, but on the 1910 census his wife is listed as a widow, so he died before 1910. The 1900 Census reads as follows: State of Alabama, County of Bullock, Precinct #2 Enon Sprouse, Charles, b. Sept., 1843, South Carolina (age 56) birthplace of parents, South Carolina Sprouse, Elizabeth/Lizzie (maiden name, Ross), b. Feb. 1870, Georgia ( age 30) birthplace of parents, Georgia Children: Sprouse, Charlie (also went by the name of Lewis), b. Jan. 1892, Georgia Sprouse, Henry Harold, b. April 1897, Georgia Sprouse, Ruth/Gertha, b. Nov. 1899, Alabama ( she married David Culpepper) - Noticing the age difference between Charles and Elizabeth, I have a feeling she was his second wife.. I can't find any info on Elizabeth, prior to 1900. I want to know who her parents were.......she had a brother whose name was Ed. Does anyone out there possibly have information on my Charles H. Sprouse, before 1910???

Kansas - Oklahoma

Carl Sprouse - I am researching my Sprouse family in Kansas. My grandfather, Carl Newton Sprouse lived in Hutchinson, Reno, Kansas and my great-grandfather Orion Lee Sprouse lived in Inman,McPherson, Kansas. All of their children lived in either Hutchinson or other cities like Dodge City, Great Bend, Sublette, Richfield, Udall, Rolla. I am looking for some missing links: Claude W. Sprouse and his wife Ima, Ella Sprouse (Mrs. M. S. Childs), Dorothy Sprouse Blood (Oklahoma). I've only been working on this for almost two years. I've made a connection with George Sprouse Jr's Sprouse family. James William Sprouse of Tennessee, my great-great grandfather is a brother to his great-great grandfather.

Ashley Hallett - I am related to the (I believe) Vincent Jr, who moved later to South Carolina. I don't know anything about Vincent Jr. In fact, now that I look at the dates, I'm willing to bet that my Vincent is a Vincent the III, son of Vincent Jr. It seems to me this must be the line, as I have not been able to find anything past my Vincent (ca 1798) who had 8 children, one of which was Cynthia, who had several children, but never married. The date and place of the marriage has helped me, thanks. I do have a good bit of information on that part of the Sprouse name if you are in need or are interested. I have come across many of the Ohio Sprouses you have mentioned on your site while researching in Pike Co and at the Ohio Historical Society, but I have yet to find any link to them. I don't know Lewis A. Sprouse's parents, however his death record has him born in Meigs Co.(Gallia Co.).

Michael Sheaffer - My name is Michael Sheaffer, and i have been doing an exhaustive search on my 3rd great grandfather David Sprouse b. 1-28-1833 d2-22-1921 whose father Benjamin Sprouse lived in the Chester County PA area of New Garden Twp. 184O Census list Benjamin living is that area. According to David Sprouse Death Certificat it states his Parents were Benjamin Sprouse his mothers maiden was Sarah Stikes, Stoker ,Stopes Stofer? hard to tell due to handwriting. In my opinion i would believe Benjamin came to PA from VA as that is where most Sprouses lived at that time. David Sprouse served in the Union Army during the Civil War serving in the 56 co. D infantry reg. PA Volunteers. He was shot in arm at battle of Petersburg on june 18, 1864, his right arm would be amputated as a result of this wound. He would later marry 2 women 1st Tamar Ellen Walton on June 30 1868 (my 3rd great grandmother) they would have 2 children Frank (my 2nd great grandfather) and Cora. he married 2nd wife on Feb 3th 1895 her name was Ida (Mccuen) Stoy. They would live in Norristown PA for rest of lives. My question is do you know anything about this line of Sprouse's in PA, and if not is it possible to point me in the right direction. Would love to be able to bring this line of mine back further so any help would be valued.

My ancestor is Jesse Sprouse / wife Rachel parents of Teresa, Teresa Sprouse b: ca 1840 m: Richard Lands b: ca 1840 died during Civil War, Children Mary, Richard and William, Jesse (great grandfather Rosemary Lands) after Richard died went to live on Sprouse Farm, the family is buried in the Sprouse Cemetery in Spartanburg County. Great Aunt Susan Lands d: 4/1996 in her mid 90's. South Carolina is difficult to pin down. The area of upper SC to which you, M2 Hayes, refer could fall into the Old Tryon County, NC, territory. It took in a number of upper SC and border NC counties in its roughly ten years of existence (about 1868-1878). To add to the Sprouse Family information -- I am told that James, Vincent, William and Jesse all show up in Spartanburg at one point. Later Vincent is in Polk County, NC (just across the state line). William Sprouse apparently died (as ancestors are wont to do) and Delilah married a Spencer. In 1850 the William (and Delilah) Sprouse family are listed as the Jesse Sprouse family's next door neighbors. In the 1860 census William has gone the way of all flesh (some sooner than later) and Delilah and all the little Sprouse's are listed as Spencers

Jane Sprouse - William T. (I think the T is for Taylor) marrying Martha Combs, 8 Sep 1830, in Sagamon Co., IL. I believe he had a first wife in TN (I don't know her name), and they had at least two children (Henrietta and William T., Jr.) By 1850, W.T. and Martha were in Menard Co IL and the following children were listed with them in the census. Robert, b. 1832, IL, George, b. 1836, IL, E.I. (female), b. 1839, IL, Samuel C., b. 1841, TN (my ggrandfather- I wonder how he got born in TN??), T.E. (male), b. 1844, IL John, 1846, IL, Mollie was born after 1850. I don't know about any others. I don't have information yet on the other siblings, but Samuel C. Sprouse, served in the 97th IL Infantry throughout the whole of the Civil War. (This unit - 97 IL Infantry - was with Grant at Vicksburg.) He married Margaret Sharp 7 Oct 1869 in Montgomery Co. IL, and by 1880 they were living in Labette Co. KS, right next to the OK border. The 1900 census indicates that they had 12 children, 6 of who were then living. I've been trying to piece together this family and this is what I have so far. Douglas Wilson - Three brothers, Davidson, Ellison, and Alexander Sprouse came from Spartanburg/Union area of South Carolina to Cocke Co., TN ca 1858. All three fought in the Civil War. Davidson was Union, his brother Ellison was Confederate and was killed at Big Black River Mississippi in the Vicksburg campaign. Alexander was in the war and survived and died in Tennessee en route to Denison, TX. His family settled there. Davidson stayed in Cocke Co., TN and was Sheriff and postmaster there in 1870. His son Grant Sprouse (1870-1960) was my grandfather and died at Bokoshe, OK. Ellison's widow and children remained in Cocke County, TN. Several Sprouse families, all apparently related live in that area today. The mother of Davidson Sprouse was named Palestine and she is buried in Inman Cemetery. She came with here sons to Cocke Co. in 1858. All three sons had daughters named Regina, all born 1857-1858. Jesse was a name used in my family.

Kathy James - I don't have a lot of Sprouse data that I can absolutely tie to mine--lots of miscellaneous Sprouse data but I can't tie all of it together. What I know is that my William Sprouse born in 1805 md Delilah (whose last name I do not know--possibly Gunter or Satterfield). He had a brother Jesse who was born about 1804 or so and died November 7 1890. He was md to Rachel b 1815 died March 11, 1879. The mother of Jesse and William was Mary. I am sure there were other siblings, or I should say I feel sure, however, I do not know their names. Jesse's children: Sally b 1829, Teresa b 1827, Calvin b 1830, Mary b 1835, William b 1837, James Alfred b.1839, d October 17, 1891, George W. b 1844, Robert Blumfield, b 1849, Frances b 1841 William's children:1850 census: Emeline 9, Mary 7, Patsy 5, Elias 3, Reuben (my grgrandfather- age 2) and John ½. There were two other Sprouse's in the area, Vincent (Vinson-written both ways) and James. There appeared to be another "set of Sprouse's" from GA, i.e. Lemueland Martin.

My g-g-g-grandfather is John Clarkson = Fitzgerald b.7 July 1782 and married Nancy Carr. They had a son named = Woodson Fitzgerald born31 Oct 1807 and he married Francis Coffey. Her = father was Reubin C. Coffey. They had 8 children. They had son named = Philander Hershy Fitzgerald b. 2 Sept 1831 and married Amanda Jane = Coffey They had 15 children. They had a son named Lloyd Washington = Fitzgerald b. 12 Oct 1891 and married Anne Lee Sprouse and had 7 = children.
