An examination of William Wade Hinshaw’s Encyclopedia of American Quaker Genealogy, 1750-1930 shows no reference to a marriage of Jesse and Elizabeth at the Bush River Monthly Meeting (nor, for that matter, at the Lost Creek Monthly Meeting in Jefferson Co., Tennessee where Jesse and family were members). Because of Jefferson County’s proximity to Ashe Co., North Carolina, I am tentatively placing Rebecca as a daughter of Ashe County resident, Samuel [166] Stidham. The 1790 and 1800 census for Samuel indicates there was a daughter in his household of the right age to be Rebecca. Some researchers have placed Rebecca Stidham, the wife of Jesse Moon, as the daughter of Zachariah [172] and Sarah Howard Stedham of Lexington Co., South Carolina. This is probably because of the proximity of Lexington County to Newberry County and the Bush River Monthly Meeting. Although Zachariah did have a daughter, Rebecca, there is no evidence she was Quaker or associated with the Bush River Monthly Meeting.
