JOSEPH CLAYTON (1844-1926)
- a biography by Rod Stover
(about 1977)

The Clayton farm....

Various photos related to the Clayton farm in the early 1900's linked from the Joseph Clayton biography, and Gram May Clayton Stover's "Early Days on the Cedar Creek."

Mary May Clayton at 16 (?), about 1903 (?). (60kb)
Although Gram May never talked about horses, this photo is dear to my heart, for daughter Stephanie, not only resembles Gram May, but is a professional horse trainer, and has a degree in equine sciences, i.e., "horsing around." - [RRS]
...a bit closer from the west; the dormers face south. Note the ornate trim. (99kb)

Chickens all over the place; this one is checking out the portch.
"Looking South" courtesy David Ludwig
Probably taken by Ernest from a bedroom window. The subject of much speculation & discussion between Dave and RRS. The structure in the center appears to be two buildings and a windmill. RRS thinks it is the home and blacksmith shop of S.G. Higgins. It might be Rose Hill school, but appears to be closer than the half-mile to the school, which was nearly to the top of the hill to the south. The full photo (117kb) shows faintly a structure in the upper left that may be the A.J. Stover place.
