- George and Susie (POOL) DUNCAN and their baby son, Clark, moved To Pool Siding.
- Jesse EDSON opened a store at Pool Siding.
- 23 June
- George DUNCAN, a grain and cattle buyer, was named Postmaster of Pool Siding.
- R. L. DOWNING put up an elevator at Pool Siding.
- 1893, April 27
- Miss Ella POOL, eldest daughter of W.W.POOL, had the distinction of being the first graduate of the Ravenna Schools. She alone comprised the graduating class that year.
- 1894, March 1
- ..it was reported that W.S POOL sold to R. L DOWNING of Kearney 3360 acres of land for $69, 059.60. This was the largest land transaction recorded in Buffalo County since the settlement of the county began.
- 1895, May 31
- Prairie schooners have already commenced to drift eastward. A citizen of Broken Bow is quoted as saying if the drought continues another month, Custer County will be depopulated.
- 1896
- May
- A Western Union telegraph office has been established at Pool Siding, with Ella POOL operator in charge.
- J.B. VARNEY has put in an experimental field of 10 acres of alfalfa on his farm just outside the city of Ravenna.
- 26 June
- "The first trainload of stock ever shipped from South Ravenna was loaded last Friday by Mr. POOL of Pool's Ranch.
- 31 July
- James McKINNEY had a severe accident while raising the pump from a dug well. Part of the pump head fell, striking him on the head, nearly severing an ear and cutting a gash in his head. (Although this did not happen at Poole, it is an example of the dangers involved in working at dug wells without heavy equipment to help.)
- 28 August
- Threshers have a busy season ahead. Thousands of shocks of grain are to be seen. From one point 50 stacks were counted. The deplorable condition of the market is a very unfortunate thing.
- The Ravenna Creamery is again chocked with a surplus of buttermilk, and the management has a disposition to give it away for hog feed.
- 16 October
- The UP depot at Nantasket has been moved to South Ravenna where a station will be located ready for business in the near future.
- 27 November
- Ella POOL, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.W. POOL of this city has been appointed U.P.R.R. station agent at South Ravenna.
- 1897, 3 December
- George DUNCAN, postmaster at Pool Siding, has concluded to open a general merchandise store.
- 1898
- 2 August
- Mrs. William Fisher of Majors sustained a broken hip when she was thrown from a carriage.
- 15 February
- On the night of Feb 15 the battleship Maine was blown up in the harbor of Havanna, Cuba. More than 100 were killed and as many injured.
- 29 July
- Ella Pool has resigned as station agent at South Ravenna and will be replaced by Joe Mahoney, formerly of Nantasket.
- Spain is looking for peace. The government has authorized a note to be sent to the president of the United States. The reply is believed to have set out terms. It is thought that the president will demand Cuba and Puerto Rico and coaling station in the Lanrones and Canary Islands. The demands concerning the Phillipines are not settled.

- A gas explosion occured at the George DUNCAN store at Poole Tuesday. Several windows were blown out, but no one was hurt.
- Fall
- The first Poole Women's Club was started with six members. They met every two weeks to sew and mend and have a social afternoon.
- 1906
- 1 March
- Mr. and Mrs. Walter NEWBERG and Mr. and Mrs. W. A. RIGGS went to Poole Siding Wednesday to institute a new lodge of the Brotherhood of America, with a charter list of 18 members.

- Poole. T.J. McCONNELL is having an implement store put up. Mr. SWARTZ and Ray VALENTINE doing the work.
- 24 April
- A carload of Ravenna flour consigned to the Red Cross at San Francisco was forwarded from here this week for the relief of those suffering from the fire and earthquake.
- The Burlington hotel alongside the railroad tracks was burned to the ground Tuesday afternoon. The fire started from a spark thrown from the smoke-stack of a locomotive.
- Henry RANKIN is the first man in Ravenna to own an automobile, having recieved one this week. A fine 10 h.p. Gale, one-seated runabout.
- 27 July
- Ravenna will hold a special election to vote on bonds for installation of a gas lighting and heating system next Tuesday.
- The Ravenna Telephone Company now maintains an all night service, having recently installed Edith CURTIS as night operator.
- 10 August
- Poole is arranging for a reunion and harvest carnival to be held on August 30 and 31.

- Poole. Mr. RICE is painting T.J. McCONNELL's new house. Christ STRUM is adding to his house, Charley KUTSCH is doing the work.
- 31 August
- The Miner livery stable burned to the ground Tuesday morning at an early hour. Mr. Wiseman ran into the burning building and cut loose as many horses as he could reach. Nine head of horses were lost and all the harness, buggies, and carriages.
- 19 October
- A devastating fire at Poole took the John MIATS general merchandise store, the Alex YOUNG buildings in which the postoffice was located, the Poole Siding State Bank, and a restaurant and small adjoing building occupied by TISDALE's harness shop. The fire started from a gas stove.
- 24 November
- Will ELDRIDGE of Poole is erecting a building which will be occupied by the State Bank and a restaurant on the ground floor, and a second floor will be used as a town hall.
- In 1906 John S. HANNA purchased a large portion of Pool Siding. He operated a feed barn and livery stable.
- 1907
- The Poole Women's Club has grown to twelve members and call themselves the Busy Sewing Circle.
- 6 December
- Free concerts daily are being featured on the new Edison phonograph at the O.L. MILLER store. Ravenna.
- 27 December
- The new U.P. depot at Poole is about completed. Joe MAHONEY is to be the new agent there and Art O'NEILL will go to South Ravenna.
- 1908, 13 March
- Eugenia POOL was a winner of the local declamatory contest.
- 1913, May
- The first class to graduate from Poole High School was made up of three members: Pearl WHITCOMB, Amy JERGENSEN, and Mary McCONNELL. Other members of the High School that year included: Ralph EGGELSTON, F. Kyle DUNCAN, Guy FRANKLIN, Emma SCHNEIDER (married JERGENSEN), Ella FRANKLIN (married FRANKLIN), Ruth WHITCOMB (married GRUNDMAN), Eunice McFARLAND, Ruth McCONNELL (married CLAYTON), Pearl PRUNER (married HUNT), Alice JERGENSEN (married ANDERSEN), Helen DUNCAN (married McINNIS). The teacher was Paul AMBROSE.

- Ravenna Creamery Co. putting in electric power.
- The Ravenna News is putting in a small electric motor.
- Ravenna Mills recently installed a power motor.
- 5 June
- The RN reported that 40 autos were lined up on the streets of Ravenna at the same time.
- 6 December
- John S. HANNA died.
- 1915
- The Poole Woman's Club were calling themselves the Willing Workers. They were involved in community activities such as repairing Poole School swings and preparing Christmas treats for children. They gave ice cream socials and pie socials to earn money for their projects. During World War I they did useful Red Cross work.
- 4 June
- The Ford auto belonging to Earl STANDAGE was destroyed by fire near Poole. The machine was being driven over a road that had been newly covered with straw. The straw balled up under the machine, finally stopping it. A spark from the engine set fire to the straw, and flames soon communicated with the gas tank which exploded and the car was completely destroyed.

- 28 April
- Harvey BISSELL of Poole lost the end of the second finger of his right hand while in the act of putting the top box on one of the farm wagons.
- 1 September
- The Ravenna Public School will open Monday under a new superintendent. Earl L. LANZ of Kearney.
- There now seems to be no way a general strike of the railroads can be averted. The strike order is out for Monday, September 4.
- 20 October
- Nebraska is shivering in the midst of an unseasonable blizzard and the ground is covered with snow.
- 1917
- 21 December
- Another troop train stopped here (Ravenna) Friday and 300 soldiers unloaded for exercise. The men were here from Washington state on their way to Georgia.
- Public schools at Broken Bow, Ansley, and Berwyn have been forced to close due to a shortage of coal. (Wartime shortages.)

- The Poole women became a federated club and were known as The Poole Women's Club. They began work on extension projects.
- 1923
- The Henry ABRAMS property, at Poole, sold at auction on Monday of this week, was bought by Frank HOWARD of Ravenna, the highest bidder, at $8000.

- Dr. L. E. DICKENSEN bought a new Jewett sedan "thinking that an enclosed car will be better for his purpose than an open car, which he has formerly favored."

- "Ike JENNINGS, a farmer living southwest of Poole was severely shocked by a bolt of lightning which struck the tongue of a cultivator he was using."
- " C.E. CLARK, cashier of the Bank of Poole has promised to contribute to the columns of the News, a department under the title. "Life in the Village of Poole."
- The PAYTON farms in Cedar Township were sold at public auction on Tuesday to close the estate. They brought $85 and $64 pere acre.

- The second annual community banquet was held at Poole, Tuesday, at the church. Kyndle's orchestra played and Chas. Clark was toastmaster.
- Four Ravenna High School students completed with remarkable grades. Sadie HUGHES of Poole was one of the four.
- 1926
- 22 January
- A. W. HARVEY of Beaver township is the latest man to install a radio receiving set of better grade.
[Prior to radio and television, there was much visiting between neighbors and friends. Card playing was a frequent pastime. Common card games were: pitch, pinochle, cribbage, bridge, hearts, and rummy. Rook was allowed in homes where other card decks (which could be used in gambling) were not tolerated. Never mind that the participants did not use them as gambling cards - because they could be used in that manner, they were not allowed in some homes.]- 7 May
- The third annual Poole community banquet was held Wednesday evening and was successful like the others.
- Homer McCONNELL has been chosen by the students as the first president of the Kearney State Teachers College student council.
- 27 August
- Work is now in progress in Ravenna on a cold storage plant built by the Omaha Cold Storage Co., a large Omaha concern specializing in the egg and poultry trade.
- 3 September
- Married. Elsie STARK and Emil BEDKE.
- A petition has been filed with the county board asking for the appointment of a county agent. The petition bears 900 names.
- 1927
- while Mr. McCLEARY was employed at the Poole School as high school teacher, the high school presented an opera. Some members of the cast were: Eldon LINDSAY, two WHEELER boys, Lauren WISSBAUM, a SWARTZ, Tommy MAHONEY, Ruth CLARK, Mary HUGHES, Rosie GOODWIN, Alma SWARTZ, Alta BATEMAN, Anna BENESEK, Mary STANDAGE, June ROBERTS, Rose WHEELER, Betty WISSBAUM, Don BURTON, Allen STOVER, Cordie FIMPLE, Ed WISSBAUM, Bernard JERGENSEN, and Fern FIMPLE. Mr. McCLEARY was the teacher. Mrs. McCLEARY was also pictured in costume.
- The Ravenna News of 25 March, 1992, p.6 ..had a copy of a photograph Kim STOVER brought to the News. It pictured the cast of the Poole School Opera from 1927. Glenn STOVER starred as "Patrick Murphy O'Flanigan." Hereafter, Glenn was known as "Pat".
- 1931
- 28 November - a new bank bearing the name of The Ravenna Bank will open its doors to the community within the next week or ten days. The leading figure will be C. E. CLARK of POOLE.
[The Poole Bank Building was used as a polling place for many years. It was ocassionally used for square dances. After the death of Joe MAHONEY, Mrs. MAHONEY lived in the bank building for a time. Tom MAHONEY said he also lived in the bank building for a short time.]- 1933

- People are writing checks again. This privilege was shortened considerably with the closing of the banks, but is now becoming prevalent. (ROOSEVELT had declared a "BANK HOLIDAY" after he came into office.)

- Walter HEIDER, Poole, broke leg playing ball.
- Softball was first called Kittenball. The first women's league in Ravenna - July 1933.
- 5 December - Prohibition ends
- 29 December
- A skating party at Poole ended unhappily when the car in which the party was riding broke through the ice. Mary HUGHES has a broken collar bone and Eileen BELL a cut on the forehead as a result.
- 1934 - The Ravenna Auditorium opened in March 1934.
- 1935
- 16 August
- Fire, believed to have been set by a spark from the steam engine, was responsible for the destruction of a threshing machine, straw and grain at the Charles Edson farm at Poole.
- The atmosphere in Ravenna is charged with expectancy as preparations go forward for the annual Ann-E-Var celebration here Thursday and Friday.
- 1936
- 31 July
- The all-time heat reacord in Ravenna was broken the past week, when the thermometer vaulted to 115 degrees. During the first 27 days of July, the mercury was over the 100 mark on 21 days.
- Buffalo County has been officially designated as a drought area and funds are available for emergency aid and farmer loans.
- 7 August
- A new race track for his racing dogs in being built by John PESEK.
- 21 August
- The 14th Ann-E-Var celebration was successfully held with an estimated attendance of 6000 each day.
- The mercury has again been at the high levels, with each day of the past week being over 100 degrees, and as high as 111.
- 28 August
- School activity is here again. The local schools will be under the suprevision of J.B. WELDON, superintendent. He served previously as High School Principal at Ravenna High.
- Official okay has been given the overpass project (over the CB&Q RR) in Ravenna and the contract has been signed and delivered. This is to replace the underpass which is subject to flooding with each heavy rain.

- Mr. and Mrs. A. W. HARVEY celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary on Oct. 11.
- 1938
- The Poole Women's Club voted to drop the extension club projects..
- 26 June
- "Birney HUGHES, 22, of Poole, lost an eye when a piece of steel flew from an auto wheel while he was changing a tire."
- 2 September
- Mr. and Mrs. J. B. WELDON and son, Jack, accompanied by Miss Mary HUGHES, left last Friday for Pasadena, California. They arrived here to make Ravenna their home exactly ten years ago. (Mr. WELDON was R.H.S. principal)
- 1942
- During World War II the Poole Women's Club again did useful Red Cross work.
- 1944
- the Poole Women's Club was credited with having made 15 civilian sweaters, 4 Navy turtleneck sweaters, 1 Army sweater, 2 pairs of gloves, 5 helmets liners, 7 pairs of writlets, and one sleeveless sweater with a total of 809 hours to the Red Cross. They also remembered service people with Christmas ditty bags as well as with cookies and personal letters. Through the years they held many social activities, supported many charities, hosted birthday parties at Good Samaritan Center in Ravenna, and when the need arose, helped families in the local community.

- Ravenna's quota in the 4th War Loan for bonds is $69,600; Pleasanton $8700; Poole $2150.
- 2 May
- (WWII). Beginning Thursday ration points will not be needed for meat except for beef steaks and beef roasts.
- 1945
- 10 May
- The bloodiest war in European history came to an official end on May 8. The unconditional surrender of the German army and the German state was made at General Eisenhower's headquarters at Rheims, France.
- 16 August
- The Japs have quit! The war is over! The shooting has stopped and peace has come once again in the world after six terrible years. The news was received in Ravenna by radio at 6 P.M. August 14th.
- 6 September
- Thurdsay noon, just at one o'clock, fire broke out in the Ravenna High School, and in spite of the best efforts of the firemen, and hour later the building was a total loss.
- 1946

- Glenn STOVER returned from service in the U.S.Army.
- 21 February
- Robert ASHER, who has been Sinclair agent for Ravenna and the territory for the past 22 years, tendered his resignation effective February 16th.
- 23 April
- Miss Joanne McINNIS has been selected a representative at Girls State by the American Legion Auxiliary which sponsors the representative.
- 1 August
- Tigerman John PESEK, who has wrestled every contender of prominence, fulfilled a ten-year ambition when he flopped Dick SHIKAT in a bout at Columbus, Ohio, last week.
- 15 August - Died - Mrs. Marie GRUHN of Poole, August 13.
- 31 August
- The airstrip which is located on top of "brickyard" hill on the Chas. PABIAN farm and used until now by local flyers has been designated as an open landing field for visiting ships.
- Sale of the Poole General Store has been announced by the firm of EGGLESTON and DUDLEY, who operated the store during the war years. The new owner is Tommy MORTON of Neligh, Nebraska.
- May STOVER served as Postmaster in Poole while Glenn was in service in WWII. The Post Office was in the front (NW) corner of the store.
- 17 October
- Meat controls were lifted by the President, Monday. The immediate result of the pronouncement was a wild price reaction on livestock. Hogs jumped $11 per hundred and at Omaha, cattle hit a new high of $31.25 and hogs hit $27.
- 1947
- Glenn STOVER purchased store from Tommy MORTON.
- Spring flood takes out UPRR bridge east of Poole.
- Post Office moved from front of the store to the rooms at the rear of the store formerly used as residence.
- 1948
- 18 March - A $605,000 grant for rural electrification work in the vicinity of Ravenna has been approved by the REA Administration at Washington, it was learned Wednesday by Supt. Chas. A. PALMER at Kearney.
- 1954
- 2 May
- Jack PESEK landed in Sydney, Australia last week after a long flight from the United States, and after a few days rest is preparing to make a wrestling tour of the "Land Down Under." He will be duplicating what his dad did about 30 years ago.

- 1956
- 23 August
- Members of the Buffalo County Board of Supervisors met with R. N. RESS of the state highway department on the matter of hard surfacing the three busiest county roads, including the 18 miles south of Ravenna.
- 13 September
- the new Nebraska 4-lane Interstate Highway .... is now planned to run between Grand Island and North Platte. The 40,000 mile route will criss-cross the continent, connecting all state capitals and larger cities. Congress in 1952 appropriated the first $25 million of the nationwide project.

- Burglars put in a busy night Tuesday, as they broke in at ENGLEMAN Service Station at Hazard, the Sweetwater Store, and the Poole Store.
- 7 November
- A head-on crash at the crest of a hill on a country road southwest of Poole Friday morning cost the life of Mrs. Joe Ripp of Poole.
- 1958
- 2 October - A large feeding operation is getting underway at a farm near Poole, which is owned and operated by the T-L Irrigation Supply Co. of Hastings. This company is operated by Leroy THOM and J.G. LOVE. Raymond THOM will be in charge of the operation where 320 cattle will be fed.

- 30 November - Jerome LOEFFELHOLZ of Poole has set some kind of a record in lambs. He has a ewe which has produced 10 lambs in the last 2 years.

They included: Wm DeLAET; Dawn JOHNSON; David POKORNEY; Dennis ROPER; Monty SOLOMON; Mickey SOLOMON; Betty HEIDER; Patricia NIEBER; Barbara RIPP; Bill TATEM; Bruce ZELLER; Brent ZELLER. Twenty in the county were on the honor roll. Among them were three from Poole, Betty HEIDER and the ZELLER twins, Bruce and Brent.

- Jerry M. KEILIG, son of Mr. and Mrs. Merle KEILIG of Poole, recently received an Air Force commendation medal for heroic action while on duty in Alaska.

- a memorial has been added to the Hillside Golf Club in memory of R. L. "Rusty" WHITCOMB in the form of a ball washing machine.

- Ella (POOL) BENTLEY daughter of W.W. POOL; and wife of Dr. S. N. BENTLEY, died at Lemon Grove, San Diego County, California.
- 12 May
- Nurse aides from the Good samaritan Center in Ravenna recently completed a 30 hour course from the Nebraska Dept. of Education in nursing duties. Among those graduating from the instruction course was Diana JOHNSON.

- Lloyd GRUHN is spending a two and one-half month leave with his family before returning to Laos.
- 11 August
- Ravenna's Legion Junior baseball team finished an 18-3 record. Team members were Larry REISSLAND, Gary EILENSTINE, Dan URWILLER, Kent ZELLER, David ZELLER, David ZELLER, Gordie JOHNSON, Rick McDONALD, Quenton ONDRAK, Louis STOEGER, David GUZINSKI, Robert LUCE, Todd STOVER, Dick HERVERT, and Jon SCHULLER.
- The Midget team finished a 13-4 season. Team members were: Randy REISSLAND, Greg HANNA, Norm SCHULLER, Rich STICKNEY, Don MACEK, Gary REITER, Paul RASMUSSEN, Kim STOVER, Brent ZELLER, Hal RIDGEWAY, Cordell BULLIS, David POKORNEY, Mick AVEY, and Larry HEATHERS.

- Dist. 52 started their school term on Monday with Mrs. Glendoris STICKNEY as teacher.

- Election of officers for the classes at Ravenna High School have been held. Presidents of the classes are: Senior - Rodney WILKE; Junior - Brent ZELLER; Sophomore - Ben RAGER; Freshman - Kerwin STOVER.

- The senior at Ravenna High School will present their class play "Stranger In the Night" on November 10 at 7:30 P.M. at the high school auditorium. Members of the class included Rich Stickney, Dawn Johnson, Betty Heider, and others.

- A chavari was held for Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Duncan in Pleasanton on Friday night.

- 22 February
- Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Book of Poole observe their 68th wedding anniversary on March 3 with an open house held in Gibbon.
- 7 March
- Beverly Jean Finke, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Finke, was named as the local reepresentative at Cornhusker Girl's State in Lincoln.
- Work on the new Ravenna High School is progressing very well and unless some problem arises that we do not now foresee, they should be able to start moving into the building around June 1st.

- Clifford LUCE has been hired as head custodian at the new Ravenna High School.

- 17 June
- The Poole Men's Softball team defeated Litchfield Wednesday at the Poole diamond by a score of 8 to 3. Todd STOVER'S two run homer broke a tie and Dave ZELLER's 3 run homer assured the Poole win. Lynn ROGER, the Poole pitcher, fired a no hitter.

- Barb and Beverly Book, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Book, will graduate Cum Laude at the Kearney State College commencement on May 9.
- 29 May
- The new V.F.W. Country Club has now opened its doors to the public. The old facility has been closed for the past month due to the expieation of the license.
- 26 June
- Ravenna's tornado warning system received a hard workout last Thursday. Both in the afternoon and evening funnel clouds were seen in the area. Some moderate damage was done on the Roger STANDAGE farm, Poole.

- Mim STEEPLE and Dorothy MAJER are two gals who can get a lot of mileage out of a 15 cent birthday card. Twenty five years ago, Mrs. MAJER bought the card for Mrs. STEEPLE's birthday. When Mrs. MAJER's birthday rolled around the next year, Mrs. STEEPLE gave her the same card back for a joke. And so it has gone on back and forth. This year marked the twenty-fifth anniversary of the card.

- Brent BOCKERMAN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl BOCKERMAN has been named valedictorian of the class of '76 at Ravenna High School.

- Since the 55 mph speed limit was put into effect, fatalities in Nebraska have continued to decrease. (The lower speed limit was enacted into law by Congress in order to save gasoline during the Mid-East oil crisis. It continued in effect over the next 20 years, when Congress elected to have each state set its own speed limits.)

- The Poole Women's Fastpitch Softball Team won the Buffalo/Sherman Counties tournament Sunday evening by defeating Pleasanton 16-7. Team members were: Alice Turek, Sue Finke, Lanaya Turek, Irish McKeon, Kim Axmann, Chris Brown, Pat Miller, Sue Behrendt, Judy Strate and coach, Glen Stover.
