Page 227 ~ "Mrs Amanda Wick, a sister of R.T. Hughes, was first married to John R. Smith, a son of T.W. Smith, one of the first Judges of the Supreme Court of the State of Illinois. She had one child, I.S. Smith, who is now living in Chicago. Mrs Smith afterwards married Azariah Wick, August 6 1838. She had seven children by this marriage. Mr Wick enlisted in the 75th Regiment pf Illinois Infantry in 1862, as a private, and died in Military Hospital No. 14, at Nashville, Tennessee."
Amanda Wick was born in Kentucky, her family emigrated to Shawneetown, Illinois about 1824. After remaining there a few years, they went to Jacksonville, Illinois. At that time there was but one house where Jacksonvillenow stands. The family remained there untin 1834, when they went north and settled in Elkhorn Grove, which was then in Jo Daviess County, but now is in Carroll County. The family settled in Genesee Grove, Whiteside County, Illinois in 1839.

She was married to John R. Smith before 1838 in Genesee Township, Whiteside County, Illinois. John R. Smith died before 1838 in Genesee Township, Whiteside County, Illinois. He was born UNKNOWN in Unknown. Amanda Hughes and John R. Smith had the following children:

Died at Nashville Tn at U.S. Army General Hospital No. 14, Sept 21, 1864 of wounds, (Gun Shot wound to right thigh and bloody diarrea) Death certificate signed by S. Fuller Surgeon U.S. V., in charge Amanda Hughes and Azariah Wick had the following children:
