Martha Schell was born Bertha Clara Schittkowski on January 12, 1895. Again, from the church records from St. Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church, I found her true birth name. However, at the time of the name change, she was already married and probably changed her name at the time of her divorce. But I digress......Martha married a dashing young man named John Galbrait. I say that he was dashing because from the terms of the divorce papers, he was for all purposes, a ladies man. He was working at a carnival when he introduced Louis Krueger to Martha's sister, Minnie. He apparently traveled with the carnivals and kept company with other ladies while out of town. That is the impression I got from the divorce papers. When Martha filed for divorce, she was back at home with her parents and John was in Pennsylvania, supposedly with his.
Martha married again on May 22, 1920 to Isaac Bernard Clark. Bernard, as he preferred to be called, was born in Michigan, his parents were Bowen Clark and Emma Williams. The couple had three children, Vivian, Margaret and Leonard. I am not sure why, but sometime after the children were born, the family moved to Delaware, Ohio.
Vivian Edith Clark was born March 24, 1921 in Cleveland. We don't know much about Vivian, mainly because she died when she was only 13 from spinal meningitis. For the wake, a glass covering was on the casket due to the fact that meningitis is very contagious. She died and is buried in Cleveland.
