Adolph was born in Schalkendorf, West Prussia on August 23, 1885, before the trip to America. He became a carpenter and lived at home with his parents. He traveled around the states, working here and there. When his parenst died in 1936, he inherited the family house on West 20th Street. He would take care of his parents house until his death in 1970.
Unkie, as he was called by all of us, would help out with mom and dad's trailer in Huron, building a sectioned "cabanna"--a room added to the side of a 1950 Spartan Mansion (mobile home) to give extra room. The cabanna was built in five sections that bolted together for easy assembly and take down. He also built cabinets in the house that mom and dad lived in on Sunderland Drive.
Unkie never married, though I suspect he did have several sweethearts over the years. I have a picture frame he made for one of his lady friends. It is engraved with roses and vines. He has initials etched into it.
He had many health problems over the years and it is suspected that may be the reason he remained a bachelor.
After he had helped take down the cabanna in 1970, about a week later, Unkie suffered a stroke on a Saturday night. He died the following Tuesday, October 20, 1970. He is burried next to his parents in Lutheran Cemetery on Pearl Road in Cleveland, Ohio.
