War Memorials and Honour Rolls
Shire of South Gippsland

While this site is provided primarily to allow us to have some idea of the War Service of our Gippsland families we should, while using it, always remember that it is also a memorial to those who fought and died, and those who returned.

Korumburra Honour Roll (Coal Creek Heritage Village - on road to Leongatha)

A very beautiful and historic honour roll is on exhibition at the 'Court house' at the Coal Creek Heritage Village. It was produced by a local photographer of the time (A. Pam) and has a photograph of each serviceman.

Unfortunately the names of some are hard to read, and some ten names appear to have been erased or are unreadable. Our best attempts were used to document the names, but if in doubt, stops (...) and question marks were used. Also because of the layout, some names may have been duplicated.

The Roll did not appear to be in any sort of order, and could not be listed in a way that represents its layout, so it has has been resorted into alphabetical order.

Presented to the people of Korumburra by A Pam Esq Photographer.

The above two marble plaques were presented by the community of Port Welshpool to the parents of two local soldiers killed on active service and are currently on display at the Port Welshpool & District Maritime Museum (corner of Turnbull and Townsend Streets). They were originally displayed in the local hall until it was burnt down on 11 October 1967, when the plaque in memory of Alex Rackstraw disappeared. The museum committee received a grant from the Department of Veteran Affairs to have a replica made which was commissioned by the museum this year.
