This site is provided as support for the AUS-NSW-WEST mailing list.
This is a discussion area for anyone who has an interest in family, local and regional history relating to the Western area of the state of New South Wales in Australia. For the purpose of this list, the West is defined as that area from the South Australian border to a line running roughly from Brewarrina down to Balranald.
The major towns are Broken Hill, Wentworth, Balranald, Hay, Nyngan, Cobar, Bourke and Walgett.
The List is dedicated to matters relating to the Western area of NSW only - if you wish to post material that is not related to this area , GENANZ-L and AUS-NSW-L are the more appropriate lists. For more details of mailing lists in neighbouring areas see under Related Mailing Lists . For a list of all Rootsweb Australian mailing lists, go to http://resources.rootsweb.com/world/Australia.html
My name is Linda Barraclough and I am the administrator of this list. I have no personal expertise of this area and created this list because a large number of my ancestors came from the Darling River area (although I live in Victoria), so it is unlikely that I can help with specific enquiries on families, etc. It is better that these posts be sent to the list. My role is that of administrator (keeping the list running as smoothly as possible and setting some rules and guidelines) and also providing a support website. My email address is firstname.lastname@example.org I also maintain the AUS-VIC-GIPPSLAND mailing list.
This site is supported by Rootsweb and in turn supports Rootsweb.
