| Comments | This family was from Bilston/Wolverhampton, and was part of the Salters Scales. The GETTINGS were significant industrialists. Their daughter married a JOHNSTON, and they lived near Edinburgh before migrating to New South Wales, Australia, in the 1880s. I know I have earlier data - I just have to find it, then I will expand this section. |

| Comments | William J. Salter and Nancy had children somewhere in Alabama between 1841 and 1847. In 1848 they were in Kemper Co., MS. In 1860 William J. is not there (died?) but Nancy and kids are in Lauderdale Co., MS. In 1870 Nancy is still in Lauderdale Co., MS. In 1880 Nancy is living with the John Duncan family in Lauderdale Co., MS; according to the 1880 census she is a sister-in-law to John Duncan. The John Duncan family has lived within a few households of this Salter family in 1850, 1860 and 1870. Have not been able to locate them in Alabama yet. |
