1. Remember:
When posting a query, please remember to include five basic items:
WHO (complete name),
WHAT (are you seeking?),
WHERE (did these folks live?),
WHEN (did these folks live?) and
HOW (can we reach you?)
Please check if your reply should be going just to the person who asked, or the whole
list. The list is set up so the default is for replies to go to the list. If it should be
going to just one person, cut and paste their e-mail address in the address line where
AUS-VIC-GIPPSLAND appears. (Or use one of those things we used to talk about called a
PENCIL and write it down from their original message to type in there). :)
This particularly applies if you are asking for lookups.
2. ***WHEN YOU HAVE FINISHED A REPLY TO A MESSAGE*** and before you send it,
scroll down and delete all unnecessary material from the previous message -
quote ONLY enough to show what you are answering. This is especially
appreciated by those who receive their mail in the Digest mode, who
otherwise receive the same message over and over again in the one digest.
There is definitely no need to resend taglines and long and complex signatures.
3. If you have a standard signature that you are using, please keep it
short. Rootsweb generally suggests about five lines max.
