Birthdate - (Source: Family Bible)

We're currently trying to learn more about the parents and family of Thomas White. See Athens County, Ohio Census information for primary data that may help identify White and Shaner relatives. It seems very possible that we've located a brother of Thomas' in the Census' hyper-linked above. John WHITE of Trimble Twp, Athens Co., Ohio has enough similarities (mother named Mary, parents both born in Penn., farmer near where Thomas farmed in 1840-59, for examples) to warrant further research on him.

Spouse: Rachel FRENCH, b. 29 JUL 1809 at Beaver Co, PA, d. 5 JUN 1877, buried at Walnut Mound Cemetery, Retreat, Vernon, WI

Father: Enoch FRENCH b. ca. 1770 at Fayette Co, PA, d. OCT 1837 at Fayette Co, PA
Mother: Mary McELROY b. ca. 1772 at Pennsylvania, d. 6 APR 1841 at Fayette Co, PA
Birthdate - 1811 (Source: LDS IGI Record, Batch #8110502) Same Rachel?
Birthdate, 29 JUL 1809 (Source: White Family Bible)

That Enoch and Mary French are Rachel's parents has not been determined with ANY certainty. While LDS lists an 1811 birthdate of a Rachel French, it also has a death date of 1812. A family report of Enoch and Mary French on Rootsweb's Worldconnect project, lists a Rachel French b. 1811, d. 1812. This same family lists other daughters of Elizabeth, Nancy, Mary, and Jane. Thomas and Rachel (FRENCH) WHITE have daughters named Elizabeth, Mary and Nancy Jane. While it's hardly conclusive evidence, it's as close a connection that I currently have.

Married 31 JUL 1831.

Obituary of Eugenia R. White

Eugenia R. Marshall was born in Unity, New Hampshire, November 6, 1839. She was first married March 29, 1869, in Charlestown, Massachusetts, to John K. Dodge, with whom she lived until about ten years ago, when she was left a widow in Boston*. August 4, 1887, she married Mr. White in Red Mound. With him she lived until the 22nd inst., when she bade adieu to earth and passed to her reward.

For many years Mrs. White was a member of the Methodist church. When she married Mr. White, he being a member of the Christian church, she very rightly united her interests with his in church relations. She was always active in church work. In the Sunday school she was an earnest and successful teacher, and many of her pupils recall with pleasure the days when her kind and tender words directed their feet into the paths of righteousness. For over forty terms she was a teacher in the public schools. Truly her life has not been a barren waste, but a fertile field in her works of usefulness.

The funeral of Mrs. White was largely attended at the Christian church. Rev. Geo. W. Case, Methodist presiding elder, officiating. The husband and aged mother of the deceased were obliged to take the last look at her face at the home, both being confined by sickness. In the Retreat cemetery she peacefully sleeps.
