service Sunday afternoon at the Leith Church.  In period costume for the service
were Sadie Ogden, Vina Ufland, Gertrude Mackie and Muriel Johnson.

Vina Ufland celebrated her 90th birthday with over 150 friends at the
United Church on Saturday August 29th.  Miss Ufland has been associated
with the Meaford Express for 71 years.

Miss Ufland received 142 cards ... The cards included birthday greetings from such Canadian dignitaries as: Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau; the Governor General of Canada, Edward Schreyer; Ontario Premier, William Davis; ...

At the request of Miss Ufland, Phyllis Brebner read a poem entitled Memories. This poem, said Miss Ufland, is her favourite -

Seasons pass in love's green garden,
And the years their changes bring,
But beneath the fallen blossoms,
Griefs are buried - new joys spring,
Round the arbours of rememberance,
Youth's unfading roses climb
But the mosses of affection,
Grow between the stones of time.

One birthday present which attracted a lot of attention was a hand-crafted appel doll, made my Mrs. Melville Haines. The doll wore a dress which matched Miss Ufland's in both style and colour. ...
