William3 Brokenshire
general: The Rand Genealogy p.77, names four children of Huldah and John Brokenshire - Mary Ann, Charles, Susan, and William, in that order.  The first three are listed in birth order.  However, no other evidence has been found regarding the existence of William.

Assumption: the unnamed male in 1848-49 refers to Charles. The birthdate on his birth record is 12 Nov 1849.  In the 1850 Census, taken in August, his age is 9/12.  He and the two girls are the only Brokenshire children listed in the index of the MA Vital Records database on NEHGS - William is not.

William does not appear with the family in the census in either 1850 in Milton MA or 1860 in Cleveland OH.  It is not clear when the family moved to Cleveland or why, but perhaps William was born there and died soon.

census: 1880 William Poole; 1900 Malcolm H. Poole-lodger; 1900 Malcolm H. Poole; 1910 Malcomb H Poole 1920 Malcolm H. Poole; 1930 Malcolm H. Poole
birth: There is some confusion about his birth date.  He is not included with his parents in the 1870 census, although his brother William is.  However, in the 1880 census, he is shown as older than William.

In the 1880 census, his age is given as 11.  He is listed twice in the 1900 census, once in a hotel in Great Falls, and once with his family, out on his ranch.  In the Great Falls listing, his birthdate is Sep 1868 (age 31), on the ranch it is Sep 1866 (age 33).  The 1866 date would make him older than his sister Caroline, which is undoubtedly incorrect.

The ages in 1880 (11), 1900 (31), 1910 (41), 1920 (51), and 1930 (61) are consistent, so I have accepted the Sep 1868 date as the most likely one.
